I wonder what movie started the trend :v:
I am 10 seconds in and that is music from fucking Toonami.
You have my attention.

This.
Because of the overuse of shakycam I find Man of Steel unwatchable because all I see is the fact that they hired a cameraman with Parkinson's. Even in the dialogue scenes the vibration the camera makes is ungodly distracting.

I found Man of Steel unwatchable because it had 2d characters, no emotional engagement and an hour long montage of skyscrapers getting knocked down by muscle men
He used edge of tomorrow a lot but never specifically talked about it.
Is it good or bad? I got the impression he kinda liked it but he never outright said. It's been interesting me but I'm not sure if it's worth the time.
John Wick got a perfect score according to this video.
Relatable character, good villains, outstanding score, a breaking point, good cinematography, etc. Best action film of the year imo
Go watch John Wick if you hate this kind of bullshit. Also The Man From Nowhere is pretty fucking good if you're willing to read subtitles (it inspired John Wick's action).
John Wick didn't have enough buildup IMHO. "shit my wife died oh hey a puppy ROBBERS TIME TO KICK ASS"

That and the fact that everyone is scared of him from the get-go. It's pretty much a sequel to a movie that never came out.

What are you talking about? The entire "Wicked" TV series from the early 2000's provides plenty of his backstory.
I bet you never even watched The New Adventures of Dutch & Dillon, either.
I'm glad The Raid and its sequel got mentioned in there, they're two of my favourite recent action movies.
The fight scenes are just crazy, and half the time it feels like there's no way the hero can possibly keep standing but he fights on anyway out of sheer bloody determination.

John Wick was made by an insanely frustrated stunt double who's had enough of being in shit movies and decided to do a good one for fucking once.
I don't blame him, must suck when you had to do stunts on the bourne legacy.

Never even heard of it. Guess I didn't do my homework. Because that's something movies have.

Yeah I agree with you. The plot about his dog dying was really weak, but the characters and world of the movie were great. The Continental is such a cool place and needs to be explored more. It was a solid movie, but I believe that most of the praise is because of the severe lack of actual good action movies.
Also on a side note John Wick 2 is confirmed to be in early development. Please let it be a prequel.

I couldn't disagree about the premise more. I've seen a lot of people saying "it's just a dog" but it was a gift from his dying wife after she passed to keep him company instead of allowing him to sulk alone. His reaction is legitimate, considering what he's capable of and who these people are.
Also the directors/writers have already expressed an interest in doing a prequel.
Lucy in the thumbnail oh my god that movie was abysmal

here's why people saying "it's just a dog" and saying the whole premise is dumb are WRONG
[sp]the dog was a gift to john from his dying wife. he cared for the dog BECAUSE it reminded him of his wife. cue young mobster riding the coattails of his dad that wants to buy wick's car from him, which he doesn't get. young thug gets mad and raids wick's home at night, beating him, killing his dog, and stealing the car.[/sp]
the reason wick goes after the mobster is much more than "they killed his dog". they essentially killed his wife's memories.
I agree with all his points but the strongest point for me is the vulnerability of the main hero. Too often nowadays is the main hero basically a superhero who can't be touched or bleed. John Wick was a great action movie but it was far from a perfect one (not in the mood to go in more detail). Great action scenes and Keanu gets his ass kicked few times, too.
I wonder what movie started the trend :v:
afaik the movie that started all the shakycam action was bourne identity

edge of tomorrow is great. all of the action scenes are pretty clear and you get plenty of wide views with minimal shakycam.

i hated john wick. I thought it was the movie equivalent of white bread. It was so unbelievably generic I thought I was watching an ad for "the action movie council" or something. When the guy said that a movie shouldn't want you wish for the credits to hurry up and get there, I instantly thought of john wick.
However, thats just my opinion, and an unpopular one at that. I was shocked to see how much people liked it. Honestly thought it was on par with "need for speed", yet more boring.
Didn't really feel for John Wick, his start was far too generic, dead wife, dead dog, crossed the wrong motherfucker. Meh.
Dredd is a good action movie, no mention. Weird.

IMHO, you gotta watch it for the action, not the story. The action is top notch and over the top to the point it's awesome!

I think some of these points fit Action games as well. I enjoyed Borderlands 2 because Hansom Jack was someone I genuinely wanted to kill. He wasn't some flat evil badguy. I suppose it also helped that he killed the guy I played as in the first Borderlands.
While the premise of Warframe is bland, it has a bunch of little stories that make it interesting. Such as Alad V cutting apart fellow Tenno to create his new proxy, Zanuka. Then after his defeat he descends into madness until he essentially meddles with an Orokin (old precursor race) weapon, the Technocyte (Infested) and it quickly eats his mind away until he's completely lost it.
Though recently, I finally got to play my x-mas gift, Wolfentine: The New Order. If you wanted a modern example of how to do an action game right, it's that game. Within 15 minutes of starting, my thoughts were "GAME OF THE YEAR, ALL YEARS, FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS!". It had everything action games were missing for the longest time. And yet, it still felt like it has a fairly decent story. Sort of generic (Then again, the whole premise back in the day was killing Nazis), but it made BJ not just an extension of the player's violence. The cut scenes were all in engine and used the gorgeous effects to feel like an action movie.
(On a side note idTech5 is pretty as fuck)

What are you talking about, there was like twenty minutes where nothing happens.
And John Wick wasn't invincible, he was out of the game for long enough to get rusty, and he gets his ass handed to him several times in the movie, even by a random goon who threw him off a balcony in the club scene. The goon doesn't even die either, and you end up with a constant threat afterwards when he gets the stitches which could give out if he keeps going at the momentum he was going at.

You honestly have to look at it beyond the surface, there were a lot of small things you need to notice for it to be memorable. The gun techniques, the fact that Wick never does any monologing or useless speeches, even at the point where he [sp]shoots the man who killed his dog, it was just a quick moment where he walks up to him, shoots him, and leaves.[/sp]
There was also the choreography, the stylish camera shots, and the fact that the movie's world had so much that they never reveal, and leave up to the imagination. Mostly the continental stuff. And maybe I'm just a sucker for the reasoning they gave for the dog to be there, it being there to help his grief, I thought it was touching.

This is why Jackie ought to stunt direct.
Vid is brilliant but his ethics on cutting are superb.
This by far is probably one of the best scenes ever filmed.

I watched Taken 3 not long ago. Jesus christ, that movie had the worst action cuts ever. You couldn't tell what the hell was going on most of the time. It felt like a parody or something.

the story being less important is one of the biggest pluses in my book though, it's not like Man of Steel with generic "epic" dialogue for the trailers to use and entire cities getting leveled by giant alien laser beams. it's just Judges Dredd and Anderson doing their jobs, ascending the building and fighting crime. that's the best
