In 1889 he had a mental breakdown. He witnessed a horse being whipped in the street, flipped out, threw his arms around its neck and collapsed. He then began to write peculiar short works known as his 'madness letters'. Here's a taster of their contents:

He then went on to have three strokes, the last of which killed the sorry fellow. Thought you'd like to know about him, and share your thoughts about the man he was, or simply say he was into bestiality and the horse was his lover, whatevs.

needs more info. A horse being whipped cant have been the only thing to make him mental unless he was extremely sensitive, if that was all it took he was probably weak minded, and yet a philosopher. The difference between this guy and many many others is that he wrote his thoughts down.
