• Whoop! There it is!: Whooping Cough reaching "Epidemic Proportions" in California
(CNN) -- California is being hit hard with a whooping cough epidemic, according to the state's public health department, with 800 cases reported in the past two weeks alone. The agency says that there were 3,458 whooping cough cases reported between January 1 and June 10, well ahead of the number of cases reported for all of 2013. This is a problem of "epidemic proportions," the department said. And the number of actual cases may be even higher, because past studies have shown that for every case of whooping cough that is reported, there are 10 more that are not officially counted. Whooping cough, known to doctors as pertussis, is a highly contagious respiratory infection that is caused by a bacterium known as Bordetella pertussis. The popular name for the disease comes from the whooping sound an infected person makes when gasping for breath after a coughing fit.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/13/health/whooping-cough-california/index.html
This will be the third epidemic to hit the USA in 4 years, as a matter of fact, after the 2010 California epidemic (9,120 cases, 10 deaths) and the 2012 Washington one (3,308 cases). There was a minor one in Vermont, or so I hear that same year, but it was only about 500 or so cases.
At least we're safe from big pharma putting mercury into our children!!!
I had a whooping cough once when I was 14. It's the closest I've come to suffocating. Basically it's when you cough it feels like your throat is swelling up, and every time you cough it gets tighter to the point where you literally feel like someone is strangling you and you cant breathe and... It was a bad time.
At least we're safe from big pharma putting mercury into our children!!!
Antivaxxers make me so fucking angry. I can't verbally convey how much fury pulses through my being when I hear about kids getting things like measles and shit because their retard parents refused to get them the potentially life-saving vaccine.
Shit, I had whooping cough when I was a kid. Don't remember it, of course, but my mom certainly does, she had no rest back then making sure I didn't die. Shitty as hell disease
it's those fuckheads' fault who think that the vaccinations will kill you or give your kids autism or some shit like that
Whooping cough blows. I remember back in Arizona getting it during a very dusty and dry season, and it was torture.
Oh, so it's actually an epidemic for once and not the media taking 10-20 cases and going 'OMG SUPERBUG RUN FOR THE HILLS'? Well shit. Someone pack all these antivaxxers into a rocket and fire them into the sun. I can understand passing up a flu shot if you're healthy, but these are serious diseases that should be gone and aren't. Get those shots.
Maybe those terrifying commercials will help stop it!
Shock tactics never work.
At least we're safe from big pharma putting mercury into our children!!!
M-muh mouse brain!!! It's funny, you get more mercury from eating a can of fucking tuna than you did getting a vaccine. Did? Yes, did, because vaccines now contain almost no mercury because of these kinds of concerns.

Why the fuck is barely anything happening to antivaxxers?
Im pretty sure I had whooping cough when I was like 16 since I would keep coughing till I either threw up or I would get to near black out levels. Just random fits with atleast one per day. My doctor said it was bronchitis but I severely doubted it.
All together now kids! "But vaccines give you autism!"
the worse thing about anti-vaxers, is that here in ohio where a slice of the population for religius reasons does not like to get routine healthcare and stays very isolated, outbreaks like this can decimate them. personally the ability to refuse shots based on religious views should be overruled by public health concerns
These retarded antivaxxer parents should be forced to drink battery acid.
madagascar joke also, I thought we had vaccinations against whooping cough?? [editline]16th June 2014[/editline] does that mean 800 people minimum refused vaccination? What?!
All together now kids! "But vaccines give you autism!"
I really don't like that reason that anti-vaccine people give in particular because that heavily implies that these people would rather have a dead or severely physically crippled child then an autistic one. It really shows their true colors when they say that.
whoop whoop that's the sound of da disease
Antivaxxers should be put in prison and have their children taken away. Why the fuck is barely anything happening to antivaxxers?
Hey, man, rude. My mom didn't vaccinate but years later and after she researched it she saw how she was dumb back then. And other than that, she is a great mother who works very hard for her kids. Stop judging people blindly, please.
This is why antivax activists are the fucking worst, if it were for herd immunity I would have probably never got whooping cough. I got the whooping cough even after being properly vaccinated a couple years back from being around people who had it. It was awful. No vaccine is 100% effective, but god damn, everyone should still get it because there's no real downside other than a hole in your arm.
Obligatory:
The solution is not to ban vaccines, but to make them fucking safer and purer. But hey, liberals do no wrong.
The solution is not to ban vaccines, but to make them fucking safer and purer.
They already are safe. And "purity" doesn't mean anything in regards to vaccination. Problem is misinformed and dumb people.
The solution is not to ban vaccines, but to make them fucking safer and purer.
No, the solution is to vaccinate your kids
whoop whoop that's the sound of da disease
I will say one thing, noone should be held back in high school if they don't want to take vaccines, like almost happened to one of my friends.
PS If I have kids, if someone tries to take them away I'll kill them. I don't care who they are, you try to steal my children you're not leaving the house alive.
You probably shouldn't have kids
madagascar joke also, I thought we had vaccinations against whooping cough?? [editline]16th June 2014[/editline] does that mean 800 people minimum refused vaccination? What?!
Some people cannot be inoculated due to allergies, but they would be otherwise protected by herd immunity. [editline]17th June 2014[/editline]
The solution is not to ban vaccines, but to make them fucking safer and purer. But hey, liberals do no wrong.
Safer than what? Safer than getting a potentially fatal illness and exposing others to the same risk?
I will say one thing, noone should be held back in high school if they don't want to take vaccines, like almost happened to one of my friends.
Well, if you're going to be in a school surrounded by other people and you refuse to be vaccinated, that's a public health risk that could cause epidemics like the ones in the OP. If you don't get vaccinated, okay, don't go to school and risk everybody else's health because of some unrealistic and misinformed opinion.
