My band Broken Silence recently got off the floor, we uploaded our first ever song! We are a Hardcore/Metal/Melody band from Denbigh, Wales. Our Myspace is here - www.myspace.com/brokensilencebanduk. If you're super awesome, you could join the Facebook group too! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Broken-Silence/295452848779?ref=ts#!/pages/Broken-Silence/295452848779?ref=ts It would be cool if you guys could check out our song, even just 5 seconds! Some feedback from you guys would also be pretty awesome, just bare in mind that I mixed the song myself and with no additional help (and I'm obviously not professional!) We're currently writing two more songs, those will be put up some time from now, but in the meantime if you generally like our stuff, it would mean a lot to me if you could send a friends request, I can't begin to explain how difficult it is nowadays for a band to work up from the bottom and build a fanbase! Thanks guys, let me know what you think, I was pretty nervous uploading it so take it easy! :ohdear:
Sounds pretty fuckin brutal, I just wish you'd turned up the guitar more.
Sounds pretty fuckin brutal, I just wish you'd turned up the guitar more.
Thanks! Which one in particular? We have one panned right and left, I didn't want to make the guitars too loud because they easily drown out the snare and kick of the drums!
Well that's kinda what I was getting at. The drums are surprisingly overpowering. Usually with shitty demo recordings you can never hear em. Turn them both up.
Alright, noted for next time, thanks!
Love it, and I have the same suggestions as SilverHammer hahaha. I'll look forward to hearing more of your music :]
Love it, and I have the same suggestions as SilverHammer hahaha. I'll look forward to hearing more of your music :]
Awesome! You have no idea how great it is to hear that, we're currently writing 2 more songs, but sadly it can take a while for me to mix them since I do it by myself, but I'll make sure to boost the guitars.
Yeah I like it! You definitely need to get it recorded better though.
Yeah I like it! We don't have that much money to spare on this (yet!) so I'm making the most of the equipment I have available to me for free, which is my college studio.
You could connect the guitars and microphone into a computer, and mic up the drum kit and plug those mics into a computer and record each instrument (and vocal) track individually then you'd get a much better sounding recording.
Vocals are good for a first demo! Yeah, sounds good. Just get some songs together and get into a decent recording studio :)
really bad band name, sounds okay
it's pretty good, but nothing seems too unique.
Zouk :v: [editline]09:09PM[/editline] Actually, on a listen, you might want to even the mix a bit by doing something about that loud ass cymbal in the first bit, maybe duct tape it a bit or something. And the vocals seem a bit off time with each other, which may be what you're going for, but I'm not sure.
Er, it's ok. What are the lyrics to the song you have up?
Thanks for the feedback guys! Keep it coming! Lyrics are - "Now I can see the light again, Your veil lifted from my eyes. Six months I lived in darkness, Six months I lived in vain, Six Months were spent so restless, I was hollow from the pain. As the days turned into weeks, The weeks turned into months, I stood at the side, to watch my life run through. We will stand tall, we will be free. Here it's ended, no longer will I see your face down every fucking street. This wasn't supposed to happen, you have broken me, but I'll stand my distance, so you can set me free, I fell but now I am stronger. no more will this go on. We travel down the line, yet further into time, We're back to where we started, no more dishearted, We have no progress made, more reasons left to hate, Next time that we are parted it will be for the last time. This time I will not fall, The time for backing down was long ago. If only you cared enough to care, If only I cared less." The cymbal I've noticed, It's a 20" Sabian Metal Crash, so It's a monster! I'll definitely move the overheads further away next time and put some tape on it, thanks!
Potential. The guitar's are meant to be the more prominent element IMO. The snares are far too over powering and the drumming needs to be turned up along with the guitars. Good backing sound. Your hardcore vocals are pretty decent actually, there really isn't a need for the growling side of the vocals, maybe try harsher clean vocals or harsher screaming to break it up a bit.
Actually, I like it how it is. I like the guitars panned left and right, and the drums are fine in my opinion. I think you just need to bring the vocals up higher in the mix. Just my own opinion. :v: [editline]03:10PM[/editline] Yeah, this is great. I love everything in this song, minus the fact vocals are too quiet. The vocals are great, actually. They're not perfect, which is okay - it gives an inflection of the human element. I also love the vocal chorus thing going on (multiple voices). Don't change anything except making the vocals higher up in the mix. It's perfect the way it is. I'm trying to place a more specific label on this, but all I can think of is Hardcore/Power metal, with the occasional harsh in there. It definitely has a rough Power metal edge to it, though. I like it. :buddy:

Wow, actually sounds pretty good, although in the song on your myspace, mabye it's me, but it sounds like theres alot of background static. Work on vocals, also, you sound a little more "death" then "hardcore" to me.
Really does sound good, I look forward to more recordings. But, like the others said, we need to hear that guitar more.
I'm not into this kind of music so I won't comment on that but get a less cliche band name.
http://www.bandnamemaker.com/
Actually, that thing isn't half bad. "Identity Shock" "Aural Identity" "Dead Prospect" "Methodical Oscillator" (Math metal ) "Paradigm Bender" "Unborn Body" (techdeth ) "Apathy Dimension" Most of the names it generates is shit, but if you give it a word and go through a few times, every three of or four tries tends to give a potential name. :v: Though most of them sound like metalcore names. Or punk names.
Sorry guys, I don't think we'll be changing our name. Broken Silence doesn't pin us down, any band genre can be called Broken Silence (since technically broken silence is just something creating sound)
Still sounds really cliche. It may not pin you down but it doesn't help you to stand out either.
Well if you check out other bands names which are close to our genre such as Architects, Bury Tommorrow and Parkway Drive, none of those names are exactly brilliant, all pretty cliché too, maybe except Parkway. The way I see it is it depends on how big the band is, some bands out there have the most cliché names ever, but because of their fame and your love for the band, you think the name is pretty cool regardless. It's just two different ways of looking at it, and besides, a name isn't everything! It's about the music!
Well, the first thing I thought of when seeing this thread was 'oh god, Suicide Silence', which might be a turn off for some people.

It screams "metalcore" to me. Architects makes me think of technical metal, and Bury Tomorrow makes me think deathcore. Broken Silence makes me think metalcore, too. Though I suppose that's a bit accurate, since you're metallic hardcore. However, when I hear "Broken Silence", I don't think "metallic hardcore", as in a fusion of heavy metal and hardcore punk. I think "metalcore," the label given to many mediocre bands who try to be hxc by using repetitive riffs, uncreative lyrics, and br00tal breakdowns. Aka crap. Sorry to say. Also, people get a lot out of a name. For example, if your friends were to say, "Dudes! You have got to listen to this band, The Poodles! They're amazing! I love them!" you wouldn't be expecting something like brutal death metal.
Wales eh? You might be as successfull as bullet for my valentine :smug: [editline]12:50PM[/editline] Second thoughts when i heard the song. Pretty heavy.
