In 1985, James Dixon was released from prison in Michigan, and while he was on supervised parole, he disappeared and went on the lam for thirty years.
Today, he gave himself away.
Heranndo County Sheriff’s Warrants Detective James Smith received a tip last week that Dixon, who had served time for armed robbery, was living in a Spring Hill home. Detectives kept an eye on the residence and on a possible vehicle that Dixon was reportedly driving.
Today, Smith conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle registered to Gary Dixon. The driver identified himself to Smith as Gary Dixon.
James Dixon has twin brothers, Gary and Larry Dixon, and officials suspected that James Dixon used at least one of his brother’s identities in the past.
While “Gary” was speaking with other deputies on scene, Smith called out “Hey, James.”
“Gary” quickly turned his head and looked at Smith to see what he wanted.
James Dixon put his head down knowing he had given himself away, detectives said. He then confessed his true identity.
He told detectives that he went on the run because Michigan would not transfer his probation to Florida, where he wanted to go because his family was here, deputies said.
Dixon, 53, was arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice. He is being held without bond and will be extradited back to Michigan.
he was probably already going to be arrested if he hadn't answered to James but goddamn he sealed up and nailed in his own coffin by his reaction :v:
Very clever ruse though. We can only consciously listen to so many channels of audio at one time, but our brain can listen for our name in basically any channel of audio (cocktail effect).
I'd be pretty fucked considering I'm curious (nosy) and tend to turn my head and look regardless of what name is called.

Yes, this happened to me in one of my High School classes.
On the first day of term, people were trying to get my attention but didn't know my name, so were just shouting random names, and I was ignoring them thinking they were shouting at someone else.
Then, one of them shouted "Isaac" really loudly, and I turned round to see what all the fuss was about, and henceforth in Systems and Control I was known as Isaac.

Ugh, why. Never admit anything.

Heaven forbid a parolee have a support structure so that he might not re-offend.
This wouldn't have happened if he had a gun to defend himself
This wouldn't have happened if he had a gun to defend himself
I wish I had a gun to defend myself from shit posts like this
I wish I had a gun to defend myself from shit posts like this
We'll you don't, and this is the consequence
So a parole who successfully reintegrated into society for 30 years is going to go back to jail. Justice
We'll you don't, and this is the consequence
I hadn't foreseen this... What the hell would happen if he did have a gun to defend himself from shit-posts?

Doesn't matter what they try to tell you; American prison is about punishment. It doesn't matter if he's the head of a charity and a community hero, he escaped from his punishment and they're going to make him serve it.

Option A: He'd splatter his brain around the room.
Option B: He'd splatter his brain around the room.
Or he'd fire against his monitor, or his monitor.
I'd be pretty fucked considering I'm curious (nosy) and tend to turn my head and look regardless of what name is called.
I have the exact opposite issue. I went to a school with only like 300 people but there were 3 other people who went by the same name as me and who far more often than I had people yelling out their names so I got in the habit of ignoring it unless I recognized the name caller as one of my friends or teachers. :v:

It must be a considerable toll on the nerves knowing that any joe blow on the force could put you in cuffs just for knowing your identity.. There was probably some small amount of relief.
kinda sucks that he's going to go back to prison, its not like he's been commiting robberies or anything in this time, he's just been living low
Gotta say, you are a pretty smart guy to stay undercover for 30 years.

A busted monitor

It's depressing that it's this way.

This guy had to make this post.
When someone calls, it's a pretty natural response to look up. Even when it's not your name.

I feel like what he said is wrong in the sense that he avoided punishment but right in the sense that he was able to be rehabilitated.
Maybe he was just tired of hiding.
I imagine it'll cause some stress.
Living low for 30 years, and then his cover gets blown by such a silly trick :v:
