Teen suspended from school for possible sexual harassment of a teacher - all he did was her a hug
(CNN) -- To Sam McNair, a 17-year-old high school senior in Duluth, Georgia, it was an innocent hug.
"You never know what someone's going through," McNair told CNN affiliate WGCL in Atlanta. "A hug might help."
It didn't in this case because after McNair hugged a teacher, he ended up with a year-long suspension from Duluth High School, putting his college plans in jeopardy.
"He's a senior; he plays football. He was getting ready for lacrosse season, and you are stripping him of the opportunity to even get a full scholarship for athletics for college," April McNair, Sam's mother, told WGCL.
The elder McNair, who says she and her son call themselves huggers, said she was dumbfounded to learn of her son's suspension after hugging a teacher.
He was told in the past to not hug her and she pushes him away, you can even see he kisses her neck.
Welcome to the american education system. It teaches you only what you can't do, by giving you harsher punishments than a brief stint in jail. This kid's way to pay for college, or even go to college since he won't be graduating on time, and then his career, it's all been changed for the worse, because of a hug. Way to go, Duluth High School, way to go. Pretty disproportionate punishment if you ask me
this is just so. wow.
I sometimes hugged some of my teachers. (only the kool ones)
Let's put everyone in glass booths because now breathing on someone will give you a suspension.
So the teacher complained about him hugging her before and he did it again and she shoved him away.
Honestly sounds like harassment. A year suspension is a little extreme but they are kind of playing the situation down.
Sam's lips and cheeks touched her neck and that she had warned Sam about hugging in the past.
Sounds like sexual harassment to me.
It's extremely unlikely that he'd still be suspended if his teacher didn't feel legitimately disturbed.

Doesn't sound like a problem with the kid...

this guy sounds sleazy as fuck
sounds like sensationalism at its finest.
if the teacher had not previously warned him and his face didn't touch her neck i doubt this would even be an issue.
Well.
Why did he hug her. Just out of the blue? It's not clear in the article.

It said that he hugs many people, including other teachers and this teacher before.

how is suspension worse than a stint in jail lmfao
because going to jail totally wouldn't have impacted his odds at an athletic scholarship more than a suspension
Your thread title's a bit broken there.
:v:
The kid went too far.
He obviously made her uncomfortable.
The amount of bad reading here is astonishing. The teacher had told him before not to hug her, and he did it anyways. One year's suspension is obviously too much, but he's not a little angel.

I'm pretty sure that is the general consensus of this whole thread.

dude's a weirdo, teachers are probably in that group of 'people not to randomly hug' especially considering she didn't want him to do it anyway
the family in the article is all NOW NOBODY CAN EVER HUG AGAIN WHAT IS THIS INJUSTICE and i can't even comment on how dumb it is to think that given the circumstances
He kissed his teacher's neck? God damn does this dude know what boundaries are

That's what I was thinking.
It's a bit weird going around hugging teachers for no apparent reason especially a surprise hug from the back.
He is probably a motherhugger.
Guy sounds like a creep. And it doesn't matter if the mother and son are both "huggers" and think it's okay, if someone makes it clear they don't want you to hug them, and you do it and make them feel so uncomfortable that they feel the need to report it, that's definitely sexual harassment.

Reminds me of that SNL skit with the Vogelchecks
Hugging someone is fine.
Hugging someone after they tell you not to is a one way ticket to fuckoffsville.

This is why it's "sensationalist" headlines I guess.

subliminal messages
It sounds to me he is one of those guys that hug people not to be "nice" but to just be an awkward dick.
He got warned, decided to do it anyways (thinking they would do nothing) and they slammed him. Now he is crying foul.
Welcome to reality.
He's lucky they don't press past suspension.
