The Wii U caused quite a stir at E3 but it didn't do much good for Nintendo's share price, which fell to its lowest point in more than five years following the announcement of the new console.
The announcement of a brand-new gaming console is the sort of thing that's supposed to excite consumers, which in turn excites shareholders, which naturally pushes share prices up, even if only temporarily. Isn't it curious, then, that with the upcoming Wii U and its unique, tablet-like controller making a splash at E3, Nintendo's price fell to its lowest point in more than a half-decade?
Regardless of the response on the E3 floor, Nintendo shareholders apparently aren't too impressed with Nintendo's vision for the future. "There were high expectations from the new version of the Wii and this fell far short," Tokai Tokyo Securities analyst Yusuke Tsunoda told Bloomberg. "People had expected to see something more at a big event like the E3, but there wasn't really anything more than what's already reported."
Nintendo's price fell off 5.7 percent at the close of trading in Osaka yesterday, dropping to $212 per share.
It's a safe bet that this isn't the reaction Nintendo was hoping for when it pulled the covers off its new hotness, but on the bright side the Wii U is more than a year away, which gives the company plenty of time to square away third-party support, show off its capabilities and really knock the socks off gamers and investors alike. Hey, it wouldn't be the first time Nintendo took a weird idea and a silly name and spun them into gold, right?
So if the WiiU does take off the shareholders will be slapping themselves silly?
The actual price will once again affect how well it does on the market. But with things they've showed it doesn't seem it will be anywhere near the original Wii's price

I imagine that a single controller's going to cost at least $100, if I'm right its not going to do well.

Only 1 controller is useable per console, they might not even sell it separately.
Good, it's a piece of shit that doesn't do anything the Xbox or PS3 can't.
If it costs like $250 and has decent reviews I'll buy it, but I'm not getting my hopes up after how much of a bummer the Wii was. It just sits on my shelf in the box.
This, it's pretty much an xbox 360 with a gimmicky controller, most of the games for it are going to be quick ports from the other consoles just to make a quick buck.
Yeah, just forget all about the amazing first-party Nintendo games.
Still, I honestly can't judge if I'm getting it until we see more of it.
200 bucks a share? holy shit that's more than fucking oil companies
All those "amazing" first party Nintendo games don't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a new console, especially with the fact that those games could work perfectly fine on the Wii, all of the first party games they showed could work on the Wii.
Sure this is a tech demo, but if all this stuff can be done on the wii, then how about we try this on the wii?

Share price depends a lot on how many shares are available. "Mærsk" (huge Danish shipping company) shares costs around $10 000 per share.
Reminds me of the wii, everyone thought it wouldn't sell shit, we know how that went though.

I can now be playing a game, and then when I need to go for a shit bring the game with me.
might be the stupid name they desperately want to cling to
I do not see anything wrong with the system. A lot of the negativism towards the console, controller and the games, seems to be coming from the hype that was generated by the rumor mill.
I think it looks good. I still would like to see more of it, probably during TGS unless mother nature has other plans in store.
Besides, we still have a year and a half before anything is set in stone (save for the controller, unless Apple brings on their bitch wagon full of lawsuits). Who knows, maybe Nintendo would push back the console another year. They still have plenty of time to process the market reaction.
A neat concept that will, once again, be shot down by high production costs.

Yea except play the legend of zelda on 2 screens at once. Which might be a little to much to handle for some zelda fans.

Not the ones that will be coming out for it. If you saw the tech demo you will know that it will do games equel to or better then the ps3 in graphics. Also battlefield on nintendo system.
I wonder how much more Nintendo wants us to shell out for new expensive controllers. I thought the Wiimote + Motion Plus (which I refuse to buy to this day) was bad enough.
(Five ninetynine US Dollars)

I would like to see what the developers working on BF3 have in store with the WiiU. It would be pretty clever to have a mini camera attachment to your gun that can get displayed on the controller screen. Good for corner checks as well as taking a peek at a tight situation, should you find yourself pinned down behind cover. Unless they also add support of knocking out the camera on the gun and you pretty much are screwed.

It's more creative than slapping a single digit number on the end of a name you've been using since you started making consoles.
This just looks, and sounds like, that Nintendo just slapped something together in hopes of earning themselves more money. Nintendo, I am disappoint.
Makes me wonder, where is the Wii 2? Or is the Wii 2 this? If it is, [this is where I start to get immature] I'm sad because I wanted to hear Japanese people say Wii 2 in Japanese. (2 is nur, pronounced as ner in English, so it would be Wii Ner. What does that sound like?)

Its not called the Wii 2, its called the Wii U. GAWD
None of the Nintendo first party games shown had those graphics, your argument is invalid.
Nintendo didn't show any first party games. Your argument is invalid.

First I dont know which system your a fanboy of but please stop system rage its just stupid and 2ndly they used the games to show off the controller not the graphics while the legend of zelda tech demo showed that.
Did they even show the actual console at E3? All I keep seeing is the controller. Really, the only thing I've heard at all is about the controller, and nothing about the system itself.

2 is Ni.
[sp]ichi, ni, san, yon, go, roku, etc so on and so forth[/sp]
Heheh. WiiNi. Even I can't avoid the awful joke.
Regardless, as I said in the other thread, I'm looking forward to how developers use this new bit of technology.

Skyward Sword looks like a cross between Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. Both great games, but neither were graphically impressive.
And, if I remember correctly, Skyward Sword isn't coming out for the WiiU, but for just the regular Wii. That's what I heard anyway, but maybe it will.

The system looks similar to the wii but seems to be a little bigger and the console itself can now play hd graphics. I guess they will release more stuff as time goes on.
Nintendo announces a new product and their shares....drop?
How does that even make sense?
Yeah, just looked around a bit, and Skyward Sword is for the normal Wii, nothing to do with the WiiU.
