• Texas court to decide if homeschoolers can wait for the Rapture instead of teaching their kids
Laura McIntyre began educating her nine children more than a decade ago inside a vacant office at an El Paso motorcycle dealership she ran with her husband and other relatives.

"Parents should be allowed to decide how to educate their children, not whether to educate their children," said Rachel Coleman, executive director of the Massachusetts-based Coalition for Responsible Home Education.

But problems began when the dealership's co-owner and Michael's twin brother, Tracy, reported never seeing the children reading, working on math, using computers or doing much of anything educational except singing and playing instruments. He said he heard one of them say learning was unnecessary since "they were going to be raptured."

Then, the family's eldest daughter, 17-year-old Tori, ran away from home saying she wanted to return to school. She was placed in ninth grade, since officials weren't sure she could handle higher-level work.
Guess there's no point in getting educated if you're going to get raptured anyways...
No one knows for sure since Texas is one of 11 states that don't require home-school families to register. And 14 states have no subject requirements for what's taught, according to Coleman's Coalition for Responsible Home Education, which advocates for greater home-schooling accountability.
This is rather concerning too. oh my god hahahaha what the fuck like come on what are you doing [editline]5th November 2015[/editline] hahaha, Jesus this is embarrassing [editline]5th November 2015[/editline] hahaha, oh my god but laughing aside, education shouldn't stop just because its the end of the world unless you know you actually know its the actual end rather than the usual stupid shit people say
poor children, they'll literally grow up so stunted they might as well be raptured no elementary, intermediate, or highschool education? they'll barely be able to scrape up manual labor jobs(if at that)

Poor kids.
But problems began when the dealership's co-owner and Michael's twin brother, Tracy
And the story starts off perfectly, confusing the fuck out of people.
Tracy is a unisex name.
Would it be unethical to require people to register and take tests before having kids? Or at least revoke particular idiots' rights to have them? Between these idiots and people like the Duggars, it is very apparent that some people should legally not be allowed to have children since they will take no effort to make them a functioning member of society.

Future Tea Party voters, right here, if they don't rebel against their parents like the eldest first. I feel for the kids, it's all fun and games but this is how you have illiterate adults with no skills. These parents should lose custody if they're not going to, you know, parent.

You could absolutely require a test before allowing a parent to homeschool their kids, though. Which makes sense anyway... But I bet lots of dumbfuck voters would vote against such an idea.
I wonder if people listen to themselves sometimes...
Guess there's no point in getting educated if you're going to get raptured anyways...
If there's no point in doing anything. The people would stop fighting and then they would stop everything else because its all senseless. They would stop going to work, They would stop breeding, talking, eating. Millions of people and they all just let themselves die because no untimely no point if your going to get raptured. Great! Now i need to play bioshock.
Great way to destroy your children's future. Guess it doesn't matter when you already believe they have none.
rapture seems a lot like a real life idiot cull to me
rapture seems a lot like a real life idiot cull to me
I have a theory what the rapture really means. The rapture is the idea people will not be on this earth before the end times. Some say up into the sky. Righto. The only people who can accomplish that is billionaires with space ships. So it wont be Christians or true believers, but those loaded with moolah.
The parents should be forced to pay money to their kids for the rest of their lives. They've basically runied their future.

I thought that not teaching kids was considered neglect anyway and grounds for having them taken away That should be the least that we do for kids in situations like this.
How many times is this now that people have claimed the rapture is coming? Never once have I flipped to the weather channel to hear "And today we have a forecast of the Son of God himself poking his magnificent face through the clouds, look out you filthy sinners!"
I didn't even realise home schooling was such a big thing for Texas. That's idiotic.
I didn't even realise home schooling was such a big thing for Texas. That's idiotic.
I dated a homeschooled girl from Texas once. She was the most sheltered person I've ever met because of it, and didn't have any concept of the real world and how people within it functioned.
Homeschooling sounds like a sure start to a shit life.
rapture seems a lot like a real life idiot cull to me
It is. Rapture isn't even supported by any kind of Christian doctrine. It's literally context-free cherry picked bullshit. [editline]6th November 2015[/editline]
Homeschooling sounds like a sure start to a shit life.
In the late 90s and early 00s, it was a means to overcome super crap schools and "no child left behind", now it's pretty much a way for suburban blackhawk helicopter parents to keep their children away from undesirables like people with melanin in their skins or people who find romance with people who have the same naughty parts as them.
I thought that not teaching kids was considered neglect anyway and grounds for having them taken away That should be the least that we do for kids in situations like this.
Texas.
Christ that's horribly ignorant. How the hell is this even a court case, hopefully everywhere but Texas it'd be an easy decision, there are children dying all over the world because they want access to education and brainwashed idiots who by the way HAVE BEEN EDUCATED IN SCHOOL believe that they don't need to teach their children anything? Christ this isn't little home on the prairy, the US is a technological superpower with a highly technical economy, being illiterate, unable to do even basic arithmatic, or understanding even basic science is going to put you in dead last, and if you decide to spread that idiocy to others you're going to bring down this country [editline]6th November 2015[/editline] Also of all the parts of the Bible I find repulsive, the rapture is the worst one. I don't want to leave the fucking world just to clear the way for some demon bastards and angels to have a war, this is manskinds world, we aren't gonna take that crap lying down, we will fight the demonic horde instead of running from it, if the soft people want out then go ahead and accept the rapture but I want mankind to continue on this world, and the rapture is just mankinds big "I give up" Somehow the people left behind are supposed to be the bad guys, for wanting to continue mankind, to live on mankind's home world, and to be free? I see those left behind as the real humans Maybe I've just played too much doom but doomguy wouldn't take rapture if offered, he went to hell to keep them there
I'm absolutely ok with this providing the entire family swear an oath to never vote..... Ever
Homeschooling sounds like a sure start to a shit life.
I was homeschooled for the greater part of my pre-university education and I almost agree. You have to know what you're doing if you want to homeschool a kid, cause it's very easy for them to become socially stunted. Even if the academic parts are fantastic (which is difficult to find in itself) you need to have a good extra-curricular timetable so the child can learn the social skills they would have learned at school. All too often parents neglect that part, not to mention the difficulty in properly teaching a child Thankfully I was homeschooled after I had been through those crucial stages at a young age and an older one, so I don't think I turned out that badly. I suppose some people might disagree, but...
A pretty big problem with home schooling in general is that it isually doesnt cover the social aspect of education. A lot of home schooled kids quite simply don't have any social skills and that fucks up their future worse the any academic deficiencies
The Rapture is about the end of the world, and God's loyal servants being called to live in paradise with Him for eternity.
"For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it." - Ecclesiastes 7:12
Knowledge preserves life, including one's everlasting life.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." - Proverbs 9:10
Knowing the world is to know God and to have insight into Him.
"An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge." - Proverbs 18:15
Wisdom and intelligence are favored by the bible, and are wanted by God.
"The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near." - Proverbs 10:14
Ignorance is ruinous to ourselves and the world around us. The Bible tells us to be as wise and knowledgeable as we can, so that we can preserve our lives, know right from wrong, and know God. Therefore, students should be schooled so as to prepare themselves for the Rapture; to deny them education is evil and is preventing them from knowing God. If these Texans were true God-loving Americans, they would teach their children as much science and mathematics as they can so that they may be closer to the Lord, so that they will be welcomed by Him on Judgement Day. This court is trying to subvert God's will and is evil.
