• Youth Interest in Local/Municipal Politics

I wrote this article for a local newspaper about the interest youth have in local politics.. There really aren't that many people I know (18-20) year-olds that actually care about what goes on in their community politically, which is a shame. Here's a link to the article. I'm not sure what you think its like in your area, but I assume there is a very large trend of youth in your local area that have the ability to vote, but just don't care enough to: http://www.yourottawaregion.com/news/article/888498--attracting-the-youth-vote-a-tough-sell
Well at least they aren't blindly voting. But they should take interest, I mean, political leaders are supposed to represent the people, and that doesn't happen if there are large groups of people not voting. You also have to consider that they really can't make any informed decisions. They probably don't vote because there isn't much in politics that directly effects them, so if they vote for someone, they won't really even know what effects it will have.
It's pretty true. Go to any high school in America and a large majority of the school will not be politically informed or motivated to vote.
To not vote is to not have responsibility when your guy is caught fiddling the books. My philosophy.
Actually, the changes made by politicians strongly affect 18-20 year olds, why wouldn't it? If they want to construct, let's say, a toll booth on the highway you commute through every day, it will affect you, dont' you think?
That's consumerist society for you.
