0:12 "Nintendo Switch. Girls will notice."
"Switchhhhhhhh"
The cases look like they're gonna be a similar size as the PSP UMD cases were (same length as a DVD case but shorter).
The vocals towards the end sounds like he's getting progressively more upset at someone for not wanting a Switch. "Hey man, what console should I get?" "Swiiiiiitch..." "Yeah, but I was thinking the PS4 because of this deal and..." "SWIIIIITCH!!!"
Why did they choose Zelda to showcase off the "on the go" functionality, seems completely at odds with the pick up and play no big deal sort of style you'd need for gaming "on the go". I won't lie, I doubt anyone will ever use this on the bus: the size of the thing, the games available being largely core games you can't play on public transport, some people would be embarrassed, the fact that we all have a phone and simply wouldn't want to bring a £300 piece of kit around all day. For me it'd be my laptop + my switch, so I that's £1000 of tech just in my bag. It's not as flashy to advertise the actual use of the portability function, which is playing on the TV until your SO/parent/roommate kicks you off and then continuing on the console. Or being too lazy to not be in bed but also wanting to play games. Or not wanting to pause your game but also wanting to go for a shit.
I see people with iPad minis and like 7" Android tablets out on the go all the time
I don't, is this a thing that's just not a thing in the UK? You wouldn't see anyone out here using a tablet sized device, shit most people around the town I grew up in wouldn't get out a 3DS for fear of being judged by other passengers.

When I was in college, I knew a girl who would pull out her 3DS to play Pokemon, or a JRPG even. Maybe it is an American thing.

I just can't see in this getting use in regular "on the go" life.
The way I see it, if I know I'm gonna be waiting a long time at something where I can sit down or at least get my own personal space, I'll bring it. So a friends house or some event that is spacious. But knowing how paranoid I'd get I'd leave getting on the bus or a venue or something and using it. I hope the mobile version comes with a strap in case I drop it or some guy tries to snatch and run with it
The portability aspect of the Switch seems really cool, I just don't know if I trust Nintendo enough to launch a console that actually has games I'll be interested in playing. I definitely won't be buying one at launch, but if they can develop a decent lineup in the next year or so following launch I could actually see myself buying a "handheld" for the first time.
Handheld is the reason I have yet to play a pokemon game fully actually. I bought a 2ds off a friend a really long time ago and the only games I actually played was OoT and MM3D and a little of Omega Ruby. Handhelds just aren't my thing which sucks because I wanted to give fire emblem a try

And I seriously feel a bit of unintentional projection because the 3ds is a goliath of a system and its whole marketing is based around playing on the go. I have never heard anyone say 'wow look at that guy on his game console' outside of like, high school. If you're embarrassed over something like that perhaps it's time to look deeper into yourself to find out what the root of the issue is because excuse the meme but it's 2017 and gaming is SUPER mainstream
I used to get a ton of streetpasses in the 3DS's hayday, while I'm not too sure about people taking the Switch out and about I imagine a decent few might, It might take a bit for people to warm up to the idea.
I've seen quite a few people, including myself using a 3ds in airports/during flights, if they allow films and such to be download able alongside games I could see the Switch appearing in such places aswell
wheres the greasy neckbeard sat on the bus?
wheres the greasy neckbeard sat on the bus?
Playing video games makes you a neckbeard? Ok then.
wheres the greasy neckbeard sat on the bus?
He was too busy writing the post I'm quoting. I don't know dude, maybe a greasy neckbearded guy did something to you, but that stereotype is way 00's

The console is really cool, but the paid online is seriously putting me off. A big reason I got a 3DS was to play Pokemon and Smash with friends. I know it's going to be free for a few months but Splatoon 2 IIRC wil be released after that free period.

Why spend hours playing the newest Pokemon when a short session of Clash of Clans is usually enough to pass the time? Why play Super Mario 3D Land when there's Super Mario Run? Why spend money on a portable device only for games, when I already have one that can play games as well as message all of my friends? I'm not saying I agree with what I just wrote above, but that's what the average consumer thinks. As such, I think the Switch is only really going to sell to the hardcore gamer on the go in the best scenario, and the hardcore Nintendo fan on the go in the worst.

Nowadays it's that in high school (which face it is a market for Nintendo) but also any other market a device with the battery life, games and size of the Switch is impractical for one the go usage.
I feel like their marketing team are considering more important factors than your anecdote about being mocked during your childhood
I feel like their marketing team are considering more important factors than your anecdote about being mocked during your childhood
Me too, and I'm saying that the device itself seems impratical and inconvenient to use "on the go" and that it's ok because it's a home console first and a portable second. Thanks for boiling everything I said down to a simple witty response though.

The switch is roughly the size of a large pencil case, or a small purse. If you need perspective, it's as tall as the 3DS XL and just a bit wider. The screen itself is as big as a 3DS XL. Like I said, very similar to a purse or clutch. And on it's own, it can operate as a one or two player system, with a decent battery life (the 3 hour number comes from playing it constantly, not when it's off. I don't suppose you play games for 3 hours straight on the bus without considering a charging cable.)

Breath of the Wild for example seems totally wrong for "on the go" gaming. It's literally impossible to play Arm and 1-2 Switch on the bus. I'm cool with that, the Switch seems like a good idea for me. I'll be using it on the TV and in bed, but it's not going to replace my phone on the bus and train.
