Officers stood by as makeshift gun shows sprang up on the sidewalks, just steps away from the buyback tents, as gun enthusiasts and collectors waved wads of cash for the guns being held by those standing in line.
“Why not offer them cash versus a gift card?” asked Schuyler Taylor, of Seattle, who used to work at a gun retailer and had hopes of buying a gun. “I’m still taking the guns off the streets; they’re just going in my safe.”
Mayor Mike McGinn said at a news conference the private transactions are a loophole that needs to be closed. “There’s no background check, and some (guns) could be exchanged on the streets that shouldn’t be in circulation.”

Much better than seeing some real pieces of history going into the furnace.
Collectors get historic firearms on the cheap, and the owners that don't care for their guns get more than a shitty gift card. It's a win/win.

I don't get why people are rating the fact that collectors are offering a better deal the gun control buybacks are is dumb? Somebody mind filling me in on when we all took a huge heelturn?

fun fact: facepunch is not a conglomerate of people with the exact same opinions or ideas!
Good on 'em. I'd participate in such things if I had cash laying around and my state tried stupid shit like this. Buy as many kalashnikovs as I had cash for, sell the ones I don't need to other collectors, keep one or two for my own target shooting. Win mother fucking win.
I don't get why people are rating the fact that collectors are offering a better deal the gun control buybacks are is dumb? It's better because, instead of the guns getting melted down, they end up in the hands of people that A: know what they're doing with them, B: Want them, and C: Won't melt them down because "Durr shootings r bad let's throw bandaids at the problem!".
And if a collector buys something he doesn't want, he can sell it to someone at the show who does.
Nobody gets hurt, and there's money to be had.
I thought the whole 'gunshow' thing was a major flaw in America's gun logic.

According to gun-control legislature: Gun Shows are where criminals buy illegal firearms.
But that's not true at all. ATF agents are everywhere at Gun Shows, and if they see something suspicious they don't sit there and file a report, they go straight up to them and start checking out the merchandise.
Fuck yes, no one destroys history and gets ripped off by the government enacting bandaid measures.

There is no flaw in our gun logic. All the reasoning we need to own them is "We enjoy shooting them at ranges". That's it. I enjoy shooting tin cans, I can do so safely, and I never want to turn my guns on a person as long as I own them. Therefore there's no reason I shouldn't be allowed to enjoy that hobby.
The flaw lies in our pathetically fucked mental healthcare system, the media, and irresponsible fuckwits that give honest, safe, respectable gun owners like myself a bad name.
