Two rockets hit the airport but did not cause any casualties. There were also attacks on the US airbase in Bagram, at a courthouse in Jalalabad in the east and elsewhere. Afghanistan is in transition, with a new president to be elected next month and foreign forces due to leave by the end of 2014. The BBC's David Loyn in Kabul says the offensive has begun now the poppy harvest is in and the Taliban can recruit fighters more easily. The Taliban offensive began with attacks before dawn on Monday first on the huge Bagram airbase north of the capital. One rocket fell outside the base, and three others were launched, but did not cause any damage. Two rockets were then launched at Kabul airport, but did not cause any casualties and the airport remains open. Gunmen then moved into a complex of government buildings, including a court, in the eastern city of Jalalabad, after a suicide attacker blew open the gates. Afghan security forces are battling to retake control of the buildings. There are also reports of attacks on Ghazni in the centre, and Helmand in the south-west of the country.

poppy harvest is in and the Taliban can recruit fighters more easily
I was talking with some people in teamspeak about spring offensive that happens every year. And the discussion came to the following conclusion. If you could force them to grow something else then either two things would happen. A) The taliban doesn't have 'drug' money to spend. B) You inspire the farmer to 'join'/'fund' the taliban. Only reason we reached this conclusion was that ISAF has a program to grow crops that has a set price from the farmers.
I find it strangley funny that rebels have ANNUAL offensive seasons. Like Yo sup guys guess what time of the year it is And the ANA are like, aww shit, not this shit again.
I find it strangley funny that rebels have ANNUAL offensive seasons.
Hasn't it always been like that?
I find it strangley funny that rebels have ANNUAL offensive seasons. Like Yo sup guys guess what time of the year it is And the ANA are like, aww shit, not this shit again.
It's been like that since time immemorial.

Time to grab that AK and dirka-dirka it out.
I feel like we need more anthropologists in Afghanistan. Figuring out how the Taliban gets fighters and what exactly is pissing people off is really important right now, more than anything else. The weird thing is that before the wars there were extensive ethnographies done on the Pashtuns (The majority of the Taliban in both pakistan and Afghanistan) that detail how Pashtun political organization works, but I don't really know if the ISAF and the Afghan government is even taking those into account.

This fact, just as it is in the Middle East and Africa, is most likely why people are pissed off. Though I doubt that's the matter of how the Taliban gets fighters (most likely paying them off with poppy revenue).
Who are you guys going to ask out?
Wow valve is really pushing new grounds this time. [editline]12th May 2014[/editline]
CS:TSO New update for CS:GO AK-47 Jihadsplosion M4A4 Patriot Glock 18 Infidelity USP.45 UncleSam AWP Skulls (stereotypical skull based skin entry)
Modern day combat is still affected by seasons, it all comes down to logistics.
Hay, Suns out Guns out.

Fucking nutjobs. Who volunteers for that job to blow up the gates? No one says, "Hey, we could just throw the explosives at the gate from a slight distance." Nope, blowing open the gates is somehow a valiant and glorious effort to promote their cause... crazy.

"Yo Ahmed, throw that vest at the gate fuck dying bro." "You must be joking bitch, I'll get my virgins before you even sniff those pearly gates."
