Whenever an indie game is described as *popular game* meets *popular game* I immediately get 100 times more skeptical That said the game looks fantastic.

Making claims that it's like Dark Souls, Metroid, Shadow of the Colossus, or Castlevania means you're setting the game up to fill some enormous boots. Each one of those series is near incomparable on their own, making any claim spur on scepticism. Claiming it's like all of those makes me very, very cautious. That said the game looks pretty great and the comparisons aren't unjustified. Though that run animation, did they rip it straight out of Starbound or what? Maybe they should revise it so it looks less silly.

While all these series are amazing, I'm sort of saying that it takes elements from each to make something new.
Should I be surprised that another indie game is using a pixel style?
Should I be surprised that another indie game is using a pixel style?
It's completely overdone but I'm still a sucker for this kind of artstyle.
Should I be surprised that another indie game is using a pixel style?
I'd rather have pixel art that's well detailed, than simplistic pixel art. I don't get why people bitch about sprites and pixels in general for indie games, it's only really understandable if they go retro since it's way overdone.
It looks really amazing for an indie game, and I'm definitely going to nab this at some point, but I don't think a 2D game can ever properly recreate the feeling of shadow of the colossus in particular. Without being able to change the camera angle the sense of scale isn't as great and while the game has some solid tactics to deal with this it's just not the same as being thrown to the end of a giant bird monster that's about to crash through some geometry you couldn't even see if it was a 2D viewpoint
Should I be surprised that another indie game is using a pixel style?
I don't know why people have such a problem with this, it's not done to hop on the bandwagon, it's done because it's a very reliable way to drastically reduce the game's budget, along with chiptunes.
Should I be surprised that another indie game is using a pixel style?
Okay then what artstyle do you want? Becuase I can guarantee you almost any you name would cost far more to do
And honestly suckers like me still like the look.
Can't help but notice there are parts in the video where the pixels themselves are actually rotated... you need to be careful what projects you decide to go for a pixel art style on because stuff like this can really cause problems.
You weren't kidding with the Dark Souls thing

The only problem I have with is the Skeletal 2D animation. Looks kinda bad with pixel-art, but that's just my opinion. Makes a lot of the animation look pretty janky.
