Police K-9 units have been used to sniff out bad guys, drugs, and all types of evidence.
But now, Utah is using a dog to locate high-tech porn.
His name is URL (pronounced "Earl").
Url can sniff out S-D cards, thumb drives, external hard drives and phones.
A useful tool for detectives involved in internet crimes.
The dog is one of nine certified electronic detection K-9s in the country.
A dog that's trained to sniff out cellphones? So... he's trained to bark at everyone, and treat everyone like a suspect?

I think it's more for house-raids when searching for child porn rather than taking out for casual walkies
Furaffinity was right
I think it's more for house-raids when searching for child porn rather than taking out for casual walkies
That makes way more sense than what I was thinking of. Still, if these dogs are only going to be used for house-raids, and pornography is something so easily hidden, how are they going to get warrants for these house-raids? Or the searches?
I guess I'm thinking what everyone else is thinking. This is fucking incredibly stupid and has no chance of actually working.

It's just a "clever" headline, I'm sure the main use isn't to find pornography...
That's actually pretty clever - though you'd assume most would hide sensitive electronics in other, less suspicious electronics so they can actually be detected but then ignored as irrelevant.
Yes, the Home Alone 3 method.
Does he just smell plastic? I can't imagine hard/thumb drives having a distinct smell
I image there are plastics and other organic chemicals found nearly only in PCBs and other electronic components. Things like solder flux and anti-corrosion coatings.
This is some third world shit right here. Imagine being detained by airport security because a dog smelled tiddies emanating from your phone.

I refuse to pronounce URL as Earl.

From now on I dread the day a dog is going start barking at me for all the catgirl hentai on my phone.

It's how Futurama does it.

As someone said earlier, he's just gonna be used in house raids where the suspect may have shady shit in a portable drive hidden in a flowerpot or whatnot
Highly doubt Earl is gonna be waiting in checkpoints to smell out your laptop filled with pics of robots posing suggestively.

Aww yeah
*police siren goes on*

They would just be used in standard raids to help make sure all digital evidence is collected. Think of how easy it is to hide a microsd card, those things are fucking tiny.

Didn't they find child porn on a USB they missed the first time in that dude Jared's home with one of these dogs?

the same way they got warrants for the decades that they've prosecuted child pornographers before they had porn sniffing dogs?
Only now, you're less likely to successfully hide your CP drive somewhere in your house.
It won't be used as drug dogs are currently used to attain warrants.
I thought the title said porn directing dog
Sweet! I can find the USB drive that i lost in 2004.
You'll be especially vulnerable to detection if your porn is mostly rough sex.
I image there are plastics and other organic chemicals found nearly only in PCBs and other electronic components. Things like solder flux and anti-corrosion coatings.
well i mean solder-flux is used in jewelry making too :v:
A dog trained to sniff out near full capacity drives and fresh jizim.
i bet he's actually trained to smell cum
Can't they just hide the drives in a can of coffee beans or something else smelly? It's not like they have the strong (to a dog) smell that drugs have

Why is there a bite taken out of his shoulder?
Literal poon hounds.
Does he just smell plastic? I can't imagine hard/thumb drives having a distinct smell
Not to us, but PCBs have tin, copper, epoxy, fiberglass, and steel in them and who knows what else with any coatings/potting materials, and then theres the chemicals used in the production.
I can imagine electronics having a fairly unique smell to dogs
Title made me think:
"What does three barks mean?"
"Bdsm"
