2K Games has put to rest long-running rumors of a sequel to 2007′s The Darkness by today officially announcing the game’s sequel, which is currently slated for a release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 some time this fall. Oh, and guess what – unlike the original, the game will be coming to the PC this time around as well.
The game, which is being developed by Digital Extremes instead of Starbreeze (who did the original) takes players down a “brutal and personal path” as they assume the role of Jackie Estacado, wielder of The Darkness – an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction.
Here’s the official description of the game:
The Darkness II breaks out of the sea of conventional first-person shooters with its fervid Quad-Wielding gameplay, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with their Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with the use of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and engulfed in stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique that stays true to its comic book origins.
It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power, and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.
“The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling. The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie’s disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers.”
“Sometimes that whooshing sound you hear is that of comic fans holding their collective breath,” said Marc Silvestri, founder and CEO of Top Cow Productions and co-creator of The Darkness comics. “So often disappointed when a favorite character gives birth to a lame movie or video game, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it. But not with The Darkness II. Yeah, call me biased, but this second installment of Jackie Estacado’s epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I’ve ever played. 2K Games hammered this one out of the park.”
That’s all for now, but we’ll of course keep you posted as more details on The Darkness II emerge.[/quote]

Man i loved the first one, we will see how this turns out.
[editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
coming for PC too woop.
My gosh, yes. The first one was amazing. Can't wait for this.
About time, I knew there was going to be more considering the cliff hanger the last game left on, but it's nice to finally have some information.
Wait so he locked up the Darkness in the first game? I don't remember that happening.
So is the left demon head allowed to eat hearts now? I felt bad for him in the first game. :smith:
I was actually looking at the game case not 10 minutes ago and thinking about how much I wanted a sequel...
Clearly I'm a genie of some kind
Awesome, I loved the first, very sad that it wasn't on PC.
About time.
I thought the ending of The Darkness didn't leave much room for a sequel.
Pretty sure the darkness consumed him at the end of the last game..
They should port the first one to the PC first!
Fucking
yes oh my god
i've been waiting for this
its being made by a different developer and it's going to be cel-shaded
it will suck

Partially cel-shaded, seems to be done right compared to most games that try it.

Wonderful first post bro
I loved the first one. Also the part where jenny dies is fucking horrible. As in i felt pissed off at those people for doing that too her lol.
The first one didn't get a whole lot of attention. But it was a fantastic game, the voice acting was fucking incredible.
Can't wait for this one.
When I read the thread title, that was the first time I died.
Cannot wait for this.
I think you're supposed to put this in General Games Discussion. Though I'm not really sure.
Also, I'm very excited for this, too.
Meh, it's not being developed by Starbreeze so I'll wait for the reviews first.
The first one was great so this is good news =)

When did cel-shaded graphics mean something sucks?
Oh right, it's just you saying that
Its not by Starbreeze?
Oh god yes. The Darkness is one of the best singleplayer games I've ever played, I cannot wait.
I've got such a boner
Fucking dammit, this fall? Gah, too many games too soon.
I'm not really digging the new art style. It may be that they're trying to bring it closer to the comics but imo it worked better as it's own thing. The grimy and dark style of the first one was perfect.
Jenny was probably the character I've felt closest to in any game or movie, and it actually really pissed me off when she died.
The Darkness is amazing, unfortunately, my CD is somehow corrupted and I can play like 4 minutes of the first chapter.
Shouldn't this be in the general games section :v:?
Still haven't finished the first one. I have it on PS3, I ought to make time to finish it sometime this weekend or so. Alas, tiring schoolwork has most of my week used up currently.
