http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18570445
More than half of British women have waists that are larger than the recommended healthy size, experts say. Researchers from the charity Nuffield Health say overweight women risk an increased chance of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, infertility and cancer. The researchers found the average waist measurement for women is 84.9cm (33.43in), compared with the healthy size of 80cm (31.49in). Nuffield Health's Dr Davina Deniszczyc said it was a "worrying problem." Dr Deniszczyc, professional head of physicians and diagnostics at Nuffield Health, said: "Fat being stored around the waist can contribute to significant health issues, such as breast cancer and infertility." Nuffield Health examined data from more than 30,000 women and found 57% had a waist larger than the healthy size. It said women in the north of England have the largest waists, with an average circumference of 87cm, compared to 81.9cm in London. Researchers also said 52.5% of the women have a body mass index (BMI) higher than the healthy range, while 16.2% were moderately or morbidly obese. The BMI is calculated by taking your weight in kilograms and dividing it by your height in metres squared. A BMI level measured between 25 and 29.9 means a person is regarded as overweight. If your BMI is over 30 then you are clinically obese. Dr Deniszczyc said: "Whilst waist size may seem like a cosmetic issue, this isn't about women fitting into their skinny jeans. Rather, it's an important indicator of overall health and well-being, particularly when taken into account with other health measurements.
~5cm doesn't seem too much, though I'm no expert. [editline]27th June 2012[/editline]
It said women in the north of England have the largest waists, with an average circumference of 87cm, compared to 81.9cm in London.
Not surprising, up north they consider pastry a vitamin.

I guess spasticpunch can't take a fucking joke.
"Fat Americans" from a Brit is now calling the kettle black :v:
It's been that way for years
I've studied in London for two years and I can confirm this.
You know, world population problems might solve themselves.
We have that problem over here in Ireland too, but most the time I'm too drunk to care.
The fat ones appreciate the sex more.
I've studied in London for two years and I can confirm this.
If you think London is bad (seriously i've never really seen much fat people there) I dare you to come to South Wales
If you think London is bad (seriously i've never really seen much fat people there) I dare you to come to South Wales
It's not too bad here, The men tend to be fatter than the women. But I live in west of Swansea, so it may be different the other side of Swansea.
no wonder, the methods of work have changed but the cuisine not so much you've also got Americanization to blame.

I for one welcome our new plump overladies
You don't need a wikipedia article to know that those things are unhealthy.
It's still a bad choice of article to use to back it up.
Blame Greggs. Usually works.
So, the "healthy" waistline, according to the article, is 80cm, and the average in Britain is now 84.9cm. Oh yeah, a whole 4.9 cm is going to cause the downfall of British well-being, and ultimately lead to every british woman dying of heart disease in two years.
Lack of a proper diet and exercise. Even 80cm is huge, the ideal thin waist is 60 or something a few cm over that. I'm a dude and my waist is 67cm.
Even 80cm is huge, the ideal thin waist is 60 or something a few cm over that. I'm a dude and my waist is 67cm.
wtf are you kidding 80cm is about 31" 67cm is 26". your waist is fucking scarily thin. where do you even buy jeans that fit? i don't think i've ever seen male clothes in less than a 28" waist in a shop. and you expect 60cm/23" as ideal? that's frightening
35 25 35 are considered the ideal female measurements (the alleged measurements of Marilyn Monroe, 25 being the waist) and the preferable measurements for modeling. All of those girls you fap to on the internets have waists around the 25 inch area. Regarding my waist, yes most men's jeans fall off me. :v: Skinny jeans look good on me so I can just wear girl jeans (no without flowers and shit).
You guys should really just come live in the Southwest US with me, you'll sweat the fat out.
I love pounding me a chubby piece of ass
A dream come true; more fat women for me!
Does this mean I can't joke about the South and the Americans with fat jokes now?
