Yeah man. Breakfast in the morning. Worst habit ever.
"I was late all the time, but I did a really good job when I was there..."
one to two minutes late
Wow, this teacher is out of control
"I have a bad habit of eating breakfast in the morning..."
Mr. Anderson went on to discuss his difficult past with mealtimes, stating that he cannot go more than a few hours without stopping to indulge in various eating rituals with names such as "lunch" and "dinner".
It sounds like they tried to fire him without 'progressive discipline', meaning no formal discipline like a write up or something until he was flat-out fired. If it is also true that he was never late for his classes, but only some arbitrary teacher deadline, I think he should keep his job.

If the teacher is late for class by 5 minutes, nothing happens other than every single person in class sitting in dead silence hoping they don't show up at all.

Though I would say it should be less strict in both directions rather than very strict.
School regulations here is that if you arrive more than 10 minutes after class has started you'll be marked as absent. Usually means that half the class (including the teacher some times) will arrive 2 - 3 minutes into the class.
one to two minutes late
hang this man.
Anderson said he was one to two minutes late to school "at the most" but was prepared and was never late for class.
Who even tracks people being late for 2 minutes
Who even tracks people being late for 2 minutes
The average US school I remember in my high school the policy was such that even if you literally had one foot in the door when the bell rang, you were late.
He was probably late to class starting by that amount of time. Pretty sure teachers need to arrive to work well ahead of class.
The average US school I remember in my high school the policy was such that even if you literally had one foot in the door when the bell rang, you were late.
Being in the military has taught me how to be more responsible and accountable for my actions. Tbh If you have your foot in the door while the bell rings you're more then just late since you should have been where you were going well before the assigned time.

If you're expected to start class and teach children at 8am, be there and ready by 7:30 or earlier. Don't bitch about your breakfast routine. Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier if you can't get in on time.

My unit has a 15 minutes early policy. Show up later than that, guess what? You're gonna do some PT.

Pull that stick out of your arse, we can't expect human beings to be 100% perfect all of the time. So the teacher wasn't being bright, but my form tutor is often late because of factors outside of his control like crashes on the motorway, I'm often late because my bus sometimes doesn't show up. Sometimes people forget to do things, sometimes there's that one wanker in the queue who can't decide whether or not he wants milk in his Americano or maybe you just overslept. There's human factors to everything, people are people, want zero tolerance? Go join the robot uprising. It is unreasonable for US schools to charge you for being late just for stepping in the door as the bell goes you're missing literally nothing. As for the military: zero tolerance and unquestioning authority are two of the most dangerous concepts that exist.
In my current High School your tardy if your not in your seat when the bell rings. So yes, that means people who are in the classroom and already put their stuff on the desks can still be considered tardy for just walking to sharpen a pencil or something.
Yep. My unit has a 15 minutes early policy. Show up later than that, guess what? You're gonna do some PT.
That's pretty liberal.

God forbid he be 3 minutes late for his prep time. The article outright states that hes always on time for class. [editline]28th August 2015[/editline]
While I do agree with you in general, this happened 111 times.
111 times being late for a 15 year teaching career isnt bad at all

[editline]28th August 2015[/editline] 111 times being late for a 15 year teaching career isnt bad at all
Being late 111 times in 2 years is abnormal, even for 15 years. Excused lateness is different but there comes a point where it's unacceptable for a professional.
If this guy knows his history, then saying breakfast is a bad habit could have some truth to it... considering Edward Bernays was the one to manipulate everyone into thinking breakfast is super important... to sell bacon.
[editline]28th August 2015[/editline] So roughly 30% of the school days.
Again being 3 minutes late for teachers prep is literally nothing. He wasn't late to the classes.
While I do agree with you in general, this happened 111 times.
Yeah but I was responding to a post that was talking about general situations not just this particular instance.
Again being 3 minutes late for teachers prep is literally nothing. He wasn't late to the classes.
It's still time that he's supposed to be there, and is being paid to be there. Being late 30% of the time (by an only self reported minute or two) is excessive. [editline]28th August 2015[/editline] Though I do agree that the way the school administration handled it was crap, and he definitely is in the right to keep his job based on that alone.
This was literally the only reason I ever got detentions, my school would bitch about me being 10 minutes late even though there was still a mile of traffic and the class didn't start for another 20 minutes [editline]28th August 2015[/editline] Also our schools are a fucking disgrace, study after study proves that we shouldn't start any earlier than 9:00 but most districts due to cutbacks start even earlier like mine did at 7:15. Like Its 4 years of sleep deprivation and your grades suffer for it
I never had time for breakfast in high school and I always had to pretty much starve. That's the school system for ya.
Think about it like this. In high school most students start at 8:00. A good portion of the student body has a 0 period and thus start school at 7:00. So in other words by 7:00 the teacher has to have prepared for the school day meaning that some of them arrive as early as 5 AM. Being 3 minutes late when you're expected to get up that early is understandable. I'm actually surprised that the school even noticed him being late at that point.
The average US school I remember in my high school the policy was such that even if you literally had one foot in the door when the bell rang, you were late.
If you weren't sitting down on the desks, ready to learn, you were late if the bell rang.
