The hacking group took over systems at a bank in Bangladesh and began their scheme by transferring money from accounts at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to some accounts based in Sri Lanka and the Philippines. The group made four transfers of $81 million each successfully but problems arose in the fifth transaction. The hackers were attempting to transfer $20 million to a non-existent organization called the Shalika Foundation. However, the hackers spelt Foundation wrong, instead sending the money to the Shalika Fandation- something the banks swiftly noticed.
That reminds me of Concerned:
"Foundation > Fandation" How do you fuck up that fierce?
Sadly they still got 80M$ from metaphorically swiping the banks ID Also it's stupid that the bank is suing the Fed because they fucked up their security, a transfer of 20M from a bank out of their holdings at the Fed probably wouldn't set off red flags, it's funny but this stuff was probably way harder in the days when one bank had to call up the other
when it comes to 81 to 200 million each there's hardly a difference, I seriously doubt they'd be using anywhere close to 81 million.
They lose 800 million but gain 200 million that's still a lot of money.

Was expecting something like
while(true); { extractMoney(800000000); }
and they cant figure out why the money isn't transferring
How did they manage to hack the accounts? Even tho they fucked up it's still impressive
Was expecting something like
while(true); { extractMoney(800000000); }
and they cant figure out why the money isn't transferring
Is it the unnecessary semicolan after while true?
On the last job I did where I had to sign like a 30 page contract they handed me a printed copy of the contract and expected me to hand-sign it so it would be scanned. The reason it was 30 pages was to include non-disclosure agreements etc. I filled in the first 29 page until I reached the last page where payment details were located. "uhh, can I get a digital copy of this" "what do you mean?" "like a PDF or word document where I can fill in my details?" "why?" "so I can fill in my IBAN number?" "can't you just handwrite it?" "its like a 34 digit code, what if someone misreads it and my payment is given to someone who isn't me? What if the person reading it makes a mistake?" "...We don't usually give out contracts in an editable form" "yeah but what if someone reads my payment method wrong? I want an infallible method of providing my payment method so that I can point my finger at what I have provided and not have anyone else be able to bring up an argument" "I see your point" (shortly thereafter they provided the same documentation to everyone else) (because of my arguing they also agreed to not try and detract salary transfer fees from other employees as well as myself, because of the argument I put up where I didn't give them the chance to even try and screw myself over) I basically won't accept transfer payment unless I can copy-paste my payment details into a document and provide a digital copy of what I have submitted. Basically, if there is any mistake made with the 34-digit code, I can always point at my digital copy and say someone else screwed up. In any case, in this day and age we shouldn't be bound by 34 digits, there should be a method for pointing at a bank account and saying "XYZ bank account belongs to ABC person" and it should be infallible.
I wonder how you would hide that kind of money
Is it the unnecessary semicolan after while true?
Yes
I wonder how you would hide that kind of money
Someone protected enough to try to siphen 1B$ is probably connected to the highest levels of organized crime, the 80M$ is probably already being laundered [editline]12th March 2016[/editline]
Is it the unnecessary semicolan after while true?
Yep, though they don't even need the brackets either since it's a 1 line statement
Yep, though they don't even need the brackets either since it's a 1 line statement
It's still good practice to keep the brackets regardless.
Was expecting something like
while(true); { extractMoney(800000000); }
and they cant figure out why the money isn't transferring
yeah they'd just be extracting money forever until the systems crash
I wonder how you would hide that kind of money
a bag of holding or three, but that kind of theft is usually a big job sponsored by organized criminals, so wouldnt be surprised if it had already been laundered or in the process of being laundered.

You have a routing number for the bank, you have your own account number, and your name. People can get that information, but the only thing you can do with it is add money to the account.
