Seeing trailers in 60 fps is always weird for some reason.
Hope it sells well enough to shun RE6.
it doesn't look like real 60fps. just interpolated crap [editline]24th January 2014[/editline]
Seeing trailers in 60 fps is always weird for some reason.
yeah because it's not legit 60fps I do not think
Looked smooth, but not a true 60FPS smooth.
only real reason I'd pick this up is to be able to play RE4 on the PC without god awful controls.
I don't think a game like this can become a silky smooth 60fps without having its whole engine re-done. The textures and models look better, though.
Environment textures still look like complete ass. I know it'd be stupid to expect it to look as well as more recent games, and the new effects and models look nice but why can't they do something about the blurry textures in the levels. [editline]23rd January 2014[/editline] That's like a valid complaint for every "HD Edition" release ever.
I think its because their not actually making new texture just using the highest resolution textures theyve made in the past. Generally studios focus on character models before environmental textures.

The models are jagged as fuck and have more rough edges than a piece of sand paper.
I've never played any PC version of RE4, but looking at a bunch of comparison shots there really, really doesn't seem to be any difference between them and in a lot of ways the lighting in this one looks like it'd be much worse (it's got that fullbright effect that's really common with ports) And it only took a few Google searches to find a bunch of already released mods for I guess the original PC port that include high quality texture replacements or redrawn textures that really makes those versions look much better than this "ULTIMATE HD EDITION" one... It looks like another quick cash grab tbh. [editline]23rd January 2014[/editline] Or maybe i'm missing the entire point of this re-release? I know the last PC port for it was really crappy apparently but it's really stupid that they're plastering "HD" all over this thing when nothing is being changed graphically.
At least you haven't seen screenshots of the vanilla original PC port. If I remember right, that shit was broken, fullbright, and just plain horrible until fans completely patched it up and beyond.
aye this comes out on my birthday gonna have to cop it
the player doesn't work for me the video freezes up at the ESRB but i can hear the audio then it lags my browser until i close the tab

It didn't even have mouse controls at release, and the cutscenes in-game were all pre-rendered instead of being real-time like literally every other version of the game. The lighting engine was pretty much broken as well. So this should be a considerable improvement over the original port.

[editline]23rd January 2014[/editline] Before anyone brings it up, i should note REmake had entirely pre-rendered CG backgrounds.
Before anyone brings it up, i should note REmake had entirely pre-rendered CG backgrounds.
REmake is still one of the best looking games of that generation, mostly because it hid it's pre-rendered content so well.
Biohazard 4 or something was the name for the original port, but that got so popular, even with shit controls, I guess they had to port it to PC. I wonder if it will be like Deadly Premonition to play. edit if you're having problems viewing it in browser, just right click the link and save link as. no shotty buffering junk.
The video itself is at 60 (technically 59.94) FPS; the reason for its "interpolated" look might be because of a frame blending on each frame. However, there are a few shots that are filmed at lower FPS, like the chopper shooting at 1:26 (roughly 25 FPS). Beyond that, though, this looks good. I missed out on playing it on consoles, so I'll get it when it's out.
Biohazard is the japanese name for the series.
Specifically because there was band named Biohazard in the United States so they couldn't call the original game that in the U.S. due to copyright.

It had horrible prerendered ones from the ps2 version. People tried to replace them with their own captured ones from emulated gamecube version but the game would often bug out and not display them or play a stretched texture file instead. Basically even with mods the original port is super problematic. And some mods were downright ugly too. Some of the textures were too different to the original and created a different aesthetic. I really prefer the idea of better original textures, even if they are only slightly bigger, because there's a certain realism that the professionally done ones give even if they're low res. The big problem with this release is that the textures look artificially blown up. So they have vigorous edge enhancement/over sharpening. They would look fine at a smaller res, but now in their full size as they were never intended to be seen. Much like a shoddy DVD master looking fine for the scaled down dvd but horrible for the Blu-ray. [editline]24th January 2014[/editline] Here's a quick comparison of my heavily modded version versus the new port. Modded original [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/game%202014-01-22%2016-44-14-52.png[/t] new port [t]http://cdn.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/254700/ss_086909eb4e53901635bce05de2771c589dbd171e.1920x1080.jpg?t=1390531677[/t] I do sort of agree that this doesn't bode well and I hope they seriously tighten it up some more before release. (but there is a certain flatness I hate to the fan-made hd textures)
I'd honestly prefer a purely functional, working and well-running vanilla look to something broken in the long term of things, even if the game's visuals are barely enhanced / aren't enhanced at all. But then calling it an HD Edition would be a slight misnomer beyond HD resolutions I guess.
Dude, it was made for the Gamecube in 2005, the models look pretty good considering.
yeah so then whats the point of making an ULTIMATE HD REMAKE RERELEASE, if they're not going to actually update anything important?
yeah so then whats the point of making an ULTIMATE HD REMAKE RERELEASE, if they're not going to actually update anything important?
Just having a functional pc release is fine by me.
ironically enough the mods to fix the graphics for the old PC port made the game look even better than the Gamecube/Wii version the only thing that was really missing were the realtime cutscenes
Just having a functional pc release is fine by me.
why not just patch the controls and other issues and rerelease the game with the patch right because if you slap "HD" in front of an old game everyone loves, people buy the shit out of it even if it isn't really that remarkable of a graphics update.
If they include all of the previous extras including "Separate Ways", then I just might get this. I haven't played RE4 in years and I'm kinda nostalgic for it. Last time I played it was on the Wii, but my Mom hated the game so much she took it and broke the disc in half...
