HRC [release]On Tuesday, federal regulations regarding patients’ hospital visitation rights will go into effect. These new regulations require all hospitals participating in Medicaid and Medicare programs – virtually every hospital in the country – to permit patients to designate visitors of their choosing and prohibit discrimination in visitation based on a number of factors, including sexual orientation and gender identity. Moved by the tragic story of an LGBT family – Janice Langbehn, Lisa Pond and their children – who were kept apart as Lisa lay dying in a Miami hospital, President Obama issued a presidential memorandum in April 2010 directing the Department of Health and Human Services to develop regulations protecting hospital visitation rights. Visit our Hospital Visitation Guide for information about these regulations and the upcoming changes. In addition to working with the Obama administration on the hospital visitation issue, our annual Healthcare Equality Index surveys healthcare policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients and their families. there's nothing wrong with that at all, how am I supposed to be cynical and paranoid about the government with you posting all this up-beat, heartwarming bullshit.
I just enjoy ruining your day.
Patients should have been able to choose who visits them from the very start, but progress is progress.
Patients should have been able to choose who visits them from the very start, but progress is progress.
They were until the bankers caught hold.
Well this is really awesome.
Cue the Conservative Outrage Machine spinning this into the decay of America's moral fiber.
Cue the Conservative Outrage Machine spinning this into the decay of America's moral fiber.
Cue the mute button.
The damn gays are taking over the hospitals!
yeah gay marriage is around the corner imo should be here before the end of the decade as in it'll be available in most if not all of the US and not just like three states
I hadn't heard about the Langbehn-Pond story before. It's amazing that a place like a hospital would be so openly homophobic as to add so much more torment to the suffering that family went through. I hope everyone responsible gets what they deserve.
They were until the bankers caught hold.
What the fuck are you talking about? You think bankers have a hidden agenda to stop people from seeing their family in hospitals?
They were until the bankers caught hold.
What's with you and the bank conspiracy?
Well that's finally a step forward.
I am outraged sir! this will lead to the decay of the moral fabric of america! :bahgawd:
What the fuck are you talking about? You think bankers have a hidden agenda to stop people from seeing their family in hospitals?
I'm sure his point was that they'll weasel every dollar they can out of you for any and all reasons. That is what they're legally bound to do, as public companies anyways.
Why was the LGBT community discriminated against in the first place?
This is an outrage, what has Amerikuh come to?
What's with you and the bank conspiracy?
bankers control the spice bankers control the universe but i like bank holidays
Yeah what kind of shit hospital discriminates who can visit a patient or not? What the fuck?
There is rarely a problem when the patient is able to make conscious decisions. When they are incapacitated, it has to do with who is going to make decisions for the patient. All countries do this.
he's right oh wait, it's FP's local conservative apologist
... says FP's local progressive fanatic
