The boy then abandoned his first theft attempt before moving on to another nearby car into which he gained entry before speeding off, nearly running over a gardener who was working in the vicinity, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported. However, the vehicle with which the 9-year-old hoped to flee the scene was a special electric car with a top speed of around 30 kilometres per hour, thus impeding a fast getaway. Concerned motorists subsequently took up a somewhat less-than-high-speed chase after the boy. "From what I understand, they had a good overview of things and honked their horn so that other cars stopped when he came," Jan Jentzell of Poseidon, the property management firm which owned the car, told the newspaper. According to Jentzell, the boy continued driving in the stolen car for about ten minutes before crashing at a roundabout. He then hopped out of the car and attempted to escape on foot before being grabbed by an adult who had given chase ahead of the arrival of police. "It's unbelievable," Jentzell told Aftonbladet. "I've never seen anything like it. It's also so tragic...he's so young." As the boy is too young to face formal criminal charges, the matter, which took place last Tuesday, has been turned over to social services, which will ultimately decide what measures need to be taken. The gun used by the boy to threaten onlookers when he stole the car is believed to have been a airsoft gun.
http://www.thelocal.se/41704/20120628/ What a badass.
Wow that is exactly what I wanted to do when I was nine.
this happened in Sweden? :o
I can imagine Benny Hill music being played during the chase
oh those nutty swedes [editline]hey wait[/editline] i don't think he has much of a future ahead of him now.
He could have put somebody's eye out with that airsoft gun
This must have looked hilarious.
Soft air guns in Sweden actually look a lot like the real thing, as there is absolutely, or nearly, no laws regulating them. Thusly, they do not need to have a orange tip, be see-through or otherwise show signs of not being the real thing.

Although in the US they gotta have orange tips.
Same thing in nearly every country.
Well, since I know there is law in regards to have a orange tip on them in the US, for example, I thought i'd clarify it, so that people don't assume that he was waving a see-through gun with a orange tip at people.
only in suburbs of Gothenburg
I imagined him stealing an actual toy car. Those things are awesome.
As badass as it appears, I hate to think what sort of upbringing this kid is getting if he actually believed he could both pull off and get away with this- not to mention the severely skewed moral compass. More to the point, how on earth did a nine year old know how to drive/ reach the pedals? I'll assume it was an automatic, but still...
Nearly all countries allow airsoft guns to look like real firearms. Although in the US they gotta have orange tips.
UK border control insisted that half of mine was coated in lurid green spray paint before allowing import :v:
UK border control insisted that half of mine was coated in lurid green spray paint before allowing import :v:
It's the same deal with the UK, orange tips/bodies, that sort of thing. I'm not entirely clued up on actual weapon carrying laws but I know that if a gun looks real, the police will probably assume it is real.
Damn good thing it wasn't a real car he would have died. He was probably slamming on the gas full force the whole time.
I don't know what's more embarrassing; owning one of those cars, or getting carjacked by a 9-year old

Criminal act aside that's the cutest goddamn thing I've read in weeks.
D'aww, they grow up so fast nowadays.
I know deep in my heart that if video games and toy guns were banned, this tragic event could have been avoided, but none of you listened to me!
Im imagining him on a powerwheels riding down the street while 4 cops are tailing him. CANT CATCH ME MOTHER FUCKERS
Crashed a stolen electric car but too young to be charged? How ironic.
Why would anyone in their right mind want to steal a G-Wiz?
Soon to be blamed on video games.
I laughed at this far more than I should have, the whole thing is just so absurd.
Why would anyone in their right mind want to steal a G-Wiz?
He was 9.
he should just run around unplugging electric cars. imagine you walk up to your car, get in, and have it tell you "Range: 6 miles"
Concerned motorists subsequently took up a somewhat less-than-high-speed chase after the boy.
That immediately came to mind, also, why the hell does everyone record these using their phones?
south park always relevant
