SEOUL (REUTERS) - Three Chinese fishermen were killed on Thursday (Sept 29) in a fire that broke out on their boat when South Korean coastguard men trying to apprehend them for illegal fishing threw flash grenades into a room they were hiding in, a South Korean official said. The three men were believed to have suffocated, a coastguard official in the South Korean port city of Mokpo said, adding that the incident was being investigated. Disputes over illegal fishing are an irritant in relations between China and US ally South Korea, even as their economic relations grow close. They also share concern about North Korea's nuclear weapon and missile programmes. The fire broke out in the boat's steering room, said the official, who is not authorised to speak with media and declined to be identified, told Reuters by telephone. A Chinese embassy official in Seoul could not be reached for comment and China's foreign ministry in Beijing did not immediately respond to a request for comment. South Korean authorities were questioning the 14 surviving crew and coastguard members involved in the operation, the official added. South Korean coastguard vessels regularly chase Chinese boats for fishing illegally and violent confrontations have occurred in the past. The Chinese boat, caught fishing in waters off the south-west of the peninsula, about 70 km south-west of Hongdo Island, would be brought in to a South Korean port later on Friday, the official said.
http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/three-chinese-fishermen-killed-in-confrontation-with-south-korea-coastguard?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&xtor=CS1-10#link_time=1475214161
the annoying part is that the chinese probably claim that water and told them it was OK to fish there, and even if that wasnt the case, they would have fished there anyways because chinese never respect any maratime rules
Well maybe the Chinese won't fuck with Korean waters anymore. Korea has an interest in making sure foreign ships aren't fucking around in their eaters since it could easily just be North Korean spies
An unfortunate accident, but I do agree it is the fishermen (or probably China)'s fault for fishing in foreign waters.
flash grenades cause suffocation?
flash grenades cause suffocation?
I'm going to guess they were in a small engine room or something and they just left them in there for too long after the flashbangs. EDIT: Nvm, I missed the first paragraph.
flash grenades cause suffocation?
If they are close enough to cause neurological damage, yeah. You can stop being able to send signals to your lungs due to the concussive damage. I imagine the grenades detonating in a closed, metal space could magnify the effect.
flash grenades cause suffocation?
It sounds like the flash grenades set the room they were hiding in on fire, causing suffocation from smoke inhalation.
flash grenades cause suffocation?
Probably the fire after the grenades i imagine.
Well when a fire breaks out because of the grenades, yeah you can die from suffocation. The majority of people killed in fires actually die from suffocation
you know, the fire at waco was Purportedly (with a capital fucking P) caused by flashbangs reacting with tear gas, which they had flooded the place with. so the odds are it caught fumes alight or something like that.
flash grenades cause suffocation?
Flashbangs use a certain chemical makeup which causes quiet a bit of fire. It can fairly easily suffocate you.
Flashbangs use a certain chemical makeup which causes quiet a bit of fire. It can fairly easily suffocate you.
It's more the case that the flashbangs started a fire that then suffocated them.
talk about overkill
