• 2 stroke engine oil in a 4 stroke

So my brother just put 2 stroke engine oil in my 4 stroke boat engine (yes he's an idiot and yes I know this is an auto section but I figure its better then throwing it in GD) and I'm just wondering if it will do any damage. Or will it survive it happening once?
You mean, he's mixed the gas for it with 2-stroke oil? If so, no harm done. Otherwise, crankcase oil for a 2-stroke is the same crankcase oil for a 4-stroke, maybe just different weight which is fine if only a quart or so was added. Be a little more clear about the problem, he could have put the oil anywhere for all I know.
He put 2 stroke oil in the oil reservoir...which is the crankcase yes?
Yes, how much of it? It's a bit dangerous but really I've seen worse, in all honesty you can get away with running half a quart or more of a different type of oil, oil blends pretty well. I've seen engines run with a quart of power steering fluid added to oil, a half quart of ATF, and other things. If you are worried, drain it and put new oil in. If you were worried enough to post on a forum, you should have already done that. If you're not worried, then continue not worrying. Change the oil at the next maintenance interval and you'll be just fine.
