Medhi thinks the general entertainment capabilities of Xbox One and PS4 will more than double their selling power. "We think you can go broader than a game console, that's our aim, and you can go from 400 million to potentially upwards of a billion units
The more they open their mouths the more I hope this Xbox One thing crashes harder than an airplane made of bricks.

That's assuming said airplane would even lift off
But nobody buys VHS players any more.
The threads on /v/ about this article alone are absolutely hilarious. Although, someone predicted that they're advertising it as a media box rather than a gaming console to get past China's restrictions on video game consoles (thus opening up a huge market of middle class workers who want entertainment).
So we will produce 5 billion Halo 5s!
The landfill is waiting.
Are they for real?
Hell, if Xbox fails, you think MS will start to have them make games for windows again and not just ports, without shitty GFWL crap?
so one out of 7 people in the world will have an gaming console?????
Bullshit. As of Q4 2012, 140 million Xbox 360 AND PlayStation 3 units have been sold worldwide.

To be fair, getting a plane made out of bricks to lift off would be pretty damn impressive, regardless of what happened afterwards.
[Update: just to clarify, he's talking about all next gen consoles combined here]
Makes it sound like a billion Xbox units will be sold
Good luck with that
The Xbox 360 sold just shy of 80 million units after a nearly 8 year run, and if I recall correctly, it wasn't met with nearly the same amount of criticism on announcement. Its only real flaw was the RRoD, and that was more or less phased out after a few years.
Even the PS2, which is the best selling console of all time, has only sold 155 million in over 12 years.
Though, the title is a bit sensationalist. They're claiming sales of next gen consoles increase by 30 to 40%, so they are expecting a total sale of 400 million over the entire lifetime of Gen 8 consoles. I still don't see that happening, unless the PS4 is as wildly successful as I hope it is. The Wii U and Xbox One are both terrible additions to the next gen, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Sony came over the top.

That's exactly why this metaphor fits so well.
Read the article scrubs
Oh you're right, now it all makes perfect sense.
they are really delusional
I wonder if they're hiding massive losses by making up imaginary future capital gains, ala Enron or the the pre-crash stock market?
Go ahead and produce all 1 billion now MS, you don't want to fall behind the rush of consumer demand!
I really just don't know how to sum up Microsoft other than a couple words that I can't say enough at the moment:
They're fucking insane.

That would be brilliant... oh god.
wow this is some dumb shit.

If that's the case... Well, this went from laughable to semi-plausible.

holy shit
Just skimmed through all the comments, looks like Microsoft tried some damage control in the beginning, but gave up when too many said "lolNOPE :)" faster than Microsoft's damage control team could take care of.

Looks like the typical scenario that'll end up with Microsoft deleting the picture and starting a recovery campaign :v
one seventh of the earth owning an xbox one?
not likely.
Wow. I was hoping this would turn out better than the PS4 release but I was severely mistaken.
