Tom Bramwell - Eurogamer
"Perhaps time was a factor, or perhaps Mark Cerny - the PlayStation 4 visionary who also led development of this game - is a better programmer and system architect than he is a writer and creative director. Whatever the answer, Knack isn't the kind of game you'll want to take home with your PlayStation 4. I'm all in favor of games that transport us back to the good old days of vibrant originality, but Knack simply doesn't."

"Playing Knack is like watching a dull movie on a plane - it's tolerable if all you want is a way to pass the time, but it's not something you'd seek out for its own sake. I finished in about 11 hours and, challenges, co-op, and secrets aside, there's just not much here worth recommending."

It currently has a 59 on Metacritic. In other news, Killzone is apparently good and Resogun is apparently great.
I think reviews are silly but to be honest them being very much not all of the same opinion just gives the reviewers a bit of credibility.
Also Knack didn't really seem like a good game either, so I'm not surprised about the fairly bad score.

looks like a particle tech demo, which is a shame
So kinda like Crysis, focused too much on graphical, forgot about the story/fun?
That's a shame, was hoping to pick it up.

but crysis was fun
nothing beats throwing your enemies into a shed and watching the shed get destroyed in the process

Fun until the botched alien segments.
I need a good PS4 exclusive launch title to validate my purchase
Fuck
Pretty much what I expected.
New consoles always have a small kinda-bad lineup, and collect dust until later in the year.
Which is why I think its pretty dumb to buy a console the day its released.
Knack looks really fun, I really appreciate how they force the player to think about how to tackle a situation instead of just rushing in and mashing. Apparently the game is really hard. In my opinion it's still the most interesting launch title out of all of them.
This is probably going to be an under appreciated gem if it doesn't turn into a series.
Honestly, whenever a game is actually hard and feels like something more creative reviewers always tend to give it mediocre reviews.

Fighting aliens was more fun than fighting Koreans.
Fighting aliens was more fun than fighting Koreans.
No. It really wasn't.
I heard Knack was just moving from one place to another and beating up more bad guys in each place, and only 4 buttons are used.
It doesn't seem like the most complicated of games, but this might be underestimating it a bit.
I wouldn't be too surprised if the reviews are accurate mind, they were using it as their prime example for most of the graphical capabilities, social features, etc. Almost everything but the actual game, which usually isn't a great sign.

Actually people have been telling me Knack is the EXACT opposite of what you just said.
The developers actually took it easy on the graphics and focused on the gameplay.
What you get is a mix between God of War, and Crash Bandicoot. Except every enemy seems to have it's own pattern and strategy you have to address your approach towards. The Rev3 review really brought this into light.
The only thing that seems really shitty is the cutscenes and voiceacting, but honestly I just care about the game.
Killzone is the graphics tech-demo, not knack.
Crysis 1 Multiplayer was the best.
Mediocre launch titles are traditional.
Reviewers expecting to get a next-gen miracle and get a platformer reminiscent of the PS1 era, Cerny's heyday.
Form your own opinions, yo.
From what I've seen.
The story is lacking and the characters are boring, but the gameplay is varied and fun.
From what I played of Knack, I did not enjoy it. The particles caused some slowdown too, which was surprising, but maybe they fixed that.
i played the demo at gamestop and gameplay wise it's complete shit, especially the camera. the graphics looked good (per object motion blur and 1080p was very noticeable) but sometimes the framerate drops super low. any time you absorb shit it drops to the teens, and i did some super move or something where you explode and shit flies everywhere and the framerate had to have been in the single digits. not even remotely worth $60 if the demo's anything to go by.
That GamesRadar review made me laugh really hard, and I don't know why because it doesn't try to be funny.
It's a shame that it's getting slammed like this but what can you do, it's a tech demo, plain and simple. The Joystiq review is a pile of shit though.

"On the bright side, that padded out my play time to roughly 10 hours, making this campaign one of the longest CoD single-player experiences.
[...]surprisingly fun co-op modes, and lengthy, challenging, and varied campaign makes Ghosts one of the best Call of Duty games to date."

The zero-g alien stuff was great (who cares what you're shooting at, it's a zero-gravity FPS!) but it got terrible afterwards.
Some of the most fun I had in the editor was making the whole first map zero-g and going at it
Shame it'd be good to have another good series right off the bat.
Still doesn't really reflect the console. Don't remember any of the ps3/360s launch titles really.
Personally, i'm looking forward to a game that has proper co-op, doesn't conform to the brown and grey of last gen and doesn't tell you to like it and why it's good that it has no gameplay.
This is the first game in years that has a soul and really appeals to me and allows me and a friend to sit down with two controllers and enjoy a game locally that ISN'T from EA Sports or the latest THX, i mean Deep Silver Men-In-Shorts Hug'n'Fuck simulator.
Fuck series, fuck good story. we got enough of both. Bring co-op back in a form that isn't some ghostly shade immitation in the form of a party-game.

After last gens SSX game came out without Split-screen play, i immediately knew that it needed a proper revival and this is a step towards both that and reviving actual gameplay being the majority content in video-games and what do the critics do? They go "meh" and pass it by. What!? not enough shit to feed the sexism shitstorm? I dunno man. Gaming journalism is now less useful than an existential analysis of "The Room".
So it's Kameo: Elements of Power again?
I think it should have never been released as commercial game, but as a simple tech-demo, which it essentially is. I can't wait when the games that take the full potential out of the console come out, though.
On the other side, Shadowfall suffers from the same thing, the story is meh but the gameplay is a vast improvement, the colors are good as well.

The real question is if it is as buggy as the vita kill zone game

I still think the zero-G place in Crysis 1 was easily one of the most beautiful and atmopsheric video game ever enviornments done. It sadly gets almost no credit for it though...

Everything about that level was awesome design. Shame the enemies and gunplay were so lame against aliens.
knack was supposed to be the game of the year of all years.
rip
