John Snow's great, he's also overdue for a goth makeover:

Holy fuck Jon Snow is absolutely hellbent on saying 'GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE NO WOMEN PLAY THEM BAD FOR MANKIND SERVE NO PURPOSE BAN BAN BAN' and made himself look like a complete and utter tit in the process
I can't have been the only one expecting a surreal Game of Thrones crossover, can I?
Papers, please saves the day. As a matter of fact it's on sale on Steam right now, get it.
Snow was ready to dismiss video games and to be fair he probably doesn't think of them too much even after the interview but Brooker did a pretty alright job defending it. Also comparing Twitter to video games?

That's Jon Snow.
That's Jon Snow.
As is this.
My favourite Jon Snow tweet has got to be "Boadcat"

You look so oooooold

Charlie Brooker is my spirit animal

I like how he played the game for five seconds before completely dismissing it. These are the people trying to put restrictions on games.
John Snow should have a "Let's Play" youtube channel. That would be thoroughly entertaining.

your guess is as good as mine m8
I think a better way to have described it would be with an analogy or something, movies evolve in large, slow steps (black and white silent films, then sound, then color, and now 3D/48fps) while gaming is constantly and rapidly evolving because the medium allows for more freedom and interesting, new ways of playing games
John Snow sounds like someone you'd find in a conservative internet forum
i like how it took 2 people to eject the game

PS4 is finished
I think that was an amazing job at the end there when he brought in Papers, Please as an example.
I love what he says about Twitter, it's so true.
I feel like a great "you know nothing Jon Snow" moment was lost.
Had face in palm, but that last paragraph/speech summed it all up greatly.
I agree with John on two points

You mean those twenty plastic people I keep in a bin aren't real people?
Tomorrow evening Charlie Brooker has a show called 'How Videogames Changed The World' on Channel 4.
For a child there is no difference between you or a dog or an animated character. They read expressions like we read words. You just forgot how to read. :)
so basically if i got this right
a child can think it's mother is a dog and vice versa cause there are no difference to them?
I agree with John on two points

I played violent games when I was a young child and I turned out fine because I was able to distinguish between games and reality. I never thought that the people I controlled were real, let alone the Lego people.
It's much easier to point a gun at someone in a game and press a trigger than to in real life. I've shot countless people in games because I know it's all make believe, and I'm the kind of guy that takes a spider outside his house rather than kill it. I'd have trouble even pointing a gun at someone in reality. To put it simply, if we all went through the experience of killing someone for real then the majority of us would suffer from PTSD and by now we'd be affectionless killers.
The problem with this interview is that Jon Snow completely failed at his job as an interviewer. Every time Charlie went to make a point he'd be rudely interrupted with some ignorant comment or question that wouldn't have needed to be asked had Jon actually taken the time to listen.
The fact that both Charlie Brooker and Dara O'briain love videogames is the best thing
From an objective view, no. A smile is a smile no matter what makes it.

I never said the outcome of experiencing violence is violence. You did think they were "real", you just forgot. :)
seems like most of this is bullshit
can you issue some sources?

That mock the week episode where half the panel talk about farming simulator was the greatest thing.
oh man this is comedy gold
That mock the week episode where half the panel talk about farming simulator was the greatest thing.
oh god I haven't watched mock the week in ages, I need to see this.
Charlie: "They're not killing people in a game."
John: "They're going through the psychological experience of doing it."

i think that if there's anything interesting to do with shooting dudes in video games, it's the disconnect that occurs when you do it. obviously if you actually went through the experience of killing a guy, nobody would play shooters. it's the way that we explicitly don't go through the experience that interests me the most, and i think games need to be more self-analytical in that regard.
