A 17-year-old boy beat his 70-year-old grandfather with a club and killed a kitten, Sheriff Jim Hart said.

But the boy emerged from the house while holding a rifle, Hart said. He was immediately ordered to drop the rifle. Instead, he pointed it at the deputies, according to the sheriff.
Two deputies shot the boy four times.
Also there is this...
Thursday was not the first time deputies had been at the house. In 2013, the boy threatened to kill his grandparents and was taken away for mental health treatment.
Neighbors are saying they have been scared of him for some time.
If he was taken away before, why did they let him back in?
Rather this than have him snap and shoot up a public place and hurt even more people, hope the grandfather is okay. It said he was standing at the end of the driveway to meet the Sheriff's, and didn't mention anything after that, so hopefully he's fine.
I like the part where he was taken away for treatment, but they apparently let him go home despite nothing changing. And people deny our mental healthcare is flawed.

People can't be held indefinitely for homicidal ideations if they resolve. He probably successfuly completed whatever treatment was prescribed and discharged. Its hard for people to believe but no matter how much Mental Health care treatment you provide people sometimes they'll still take their lives or someone elses. It's really easy for people to say 'our Mental Health care treatment sucks/is flawed/yadayada when they're not the people providing care or the ones working on an Inpatient ward.
There's probably more to this kid than there first seems, why was he living with his grandparents? Why was he not with his mother in Nevada? Why did his grandfather (presumably) have guns not so securely stored, when he had already threatened to kill them before?
All in all it's a pretty tragic case, kid is clearly not well. The Police have done the right thing to put the officers on leave while it's investigated
The heck? If your kid threatens you and goes to a fucking mental hospital because of it, you don't leave guns lying around.
Also why kill a cat lol
Rest in piss you piece of shit.

Did you miss the part where he also beat his grandfather and pointed a fucking gun at the officers in an obviously threatening manner?
They didn't shoot the kid because he killed a kitten.

Let's not put ourselves at the same level as him, how about that?
You should know better.

you know whats even edgier than the post you quoted?
killing a kitten, beating your grandfather and pointing a gun at police
With that kind of rage towards his grandfather, it is likely that the boy was put through some sort of abuse. The abuse could have lasted several years already.
Killing/torturing animals often is a stepping stone towards similar actions against humas. The escalation this kid had seems really fast through.

I too like to see mentally disabled teenagers get shot.
Feline lives matter.

Jesus, you guys are encouraging more violence.
I feel so bad for everyone, and the kid possibly just feeling helpless and restorting to violence to fix his problems.
That's pretty awful, but the kid sounded way too messed up to really go on for much longer without doing anything worse.
Guess he wanted to die, cause pulling a gun on a cop is probably one of the most guaranteed methods of suicide.
lol and people think ratings are what makes SH shit half of the time.
Anyways at least he didn't kill his grandfather or any police officers, this definitely could have been worse.

I wonder if I met him, I'm 19 and he is 17, and theres only one high school up here. Its entirely possible.
Unfortunately there are going to be people born in to this world that are just born wrong. This kid was obviously apart of that pool. It's a shame he wasn't successfully segregated prior to all of this.
