Shit, new thread? I'll have to take a new family photo later.
We should probably put more effort into the thread than "OH SHIT I NEED TO BE THE NEW OP OH SHIT GOTTA HURRY".
I've heard good things about the Ruger AR556. Anyone know anything about it?
It's like the S&W M&P15. An entry level AR15 for a great price and quality. The only down side is that Ruger uses a proprietary hand guard and mounting system, so the barre nut has to go if you use something else. Drop in rails won't even work unless you disassemble the forend.
I recently got a Taurus PT809C. Was sure to read whether or not it was part of Taurus' recent recall, and it aint, so I'm happy.
Past that, happy with it. Need to finish oiling it... Magazine release got a little stiff after 100 rounds.
On another note, I hear that the Kel-Tec Sub2k is a fantastic little carbine, especially for the price. I see a LOT of really nice accessories for it too. Thoughts?

Get one if you can find one. Particularly the Glock mag variety. Doesn't matter if it's gen 1 or 2. The gun is slightly uncomfortable with it's bare metal tube you rest your cheek on. Sights are also reside in the "meh" department. But, for what it is, it's a great carbine for the money and that folding action.
Be sure to oil the fuck out of the action though. It's a little stiff and rough when you first get one.
You guys think you can help me out? I'm looking at buying my first gun and I'm not super confident on what to look out for when buying used. I'm looking at a colt combat commander that a guy wants $450 for. Barrel has a little tarnish and the rifling seems good, but thats about all I know to look out for.
Last chance to dissuade me from an XT-22M.

I take it you're looking at handguns? If you have no experience with guns or pistols at all, a .45 or 1911 shouldn't be your first one. If you want to properly learn the ins and outs of proper technique, you should start with a .22lr then move on from there to something like a 1911.
If you're dead set on a 1911, then there are cheap 22lr clones out there that you should start with.
As far as buying used goes, just be cautious. If it's not from a gunshop or pawnshop, I would recommend meeting the seller at a gunrange and test firing the gun. Other than that, just do some research on the actual firearm and the way the action works and make sure the action works properly and theres no cracks or pitting before you hand cash over .

I got one, great little rifle. I'm no expert in these things(load mag, pull trigger, gun goes bang), but for my first AR it's treated me well

New thread! Time to share one of my favorite handguns, a ruger sp-101 3" loaded in 125 grain hornady ftx.
This thing is a beast and I can easily and accurately reach out and constantly hit a 12" plate at 100 yards.
So, I am between an M&P Shield, and S&W SD9VE. I shall procure one of these.
I honestly do not recommend the M&P Shield. My stepmother's has an extremely firm slide with a neigh impossible to use slide lock. The trigger kind of sucks, too.

How do those clips work/what are they called?
In Texas, it's legal to open carry rifles and shotguns.
If a pistol is registered as a SBR, does it become a rifle under law? Is it then legal to open carry it?
Not planning on open carrying but I'm curious.

They're called speed/quick strips and this video shows how they are used https://youtu.be/JOQjohaMwEU?t=1m50s

AFAIK, SBRs are treated like pistols because of OAL, but I'm not sure what Texas law says; I know that in PA, you can have a locked and loaded SBR in your vehicle much as you would a pistol, but you can't have a rifle in the same condition.
Hey. Quit starting new threads without me, guys.... guys...? Guise....?
might be a little light
You have to be at least be using a 200 grain bullet for crows, mate.
Got the marlin. Store had a massive selection of .22 WMR rifles but not a single box of ammo for them. Hopefully shooting this thing won't be like shooting unicorn farts.
Looking for second opinions on which optic to mount on it, something under $100 please.
oh my god i just shot my npap for the first time and made the mistake of going into an indoor range
do any of you guys put CLP into the magazine? is that ok to do?

???
7.62x39 shouldn't be bothersome indoors at all.
So my grandfather died a few months ago, and we recently got his guns. Two were kind of generic fudd guns, a bolt-action .22 and an over/under savage .22/.410.
The jewel was an original 1894 Marlin in .38-40 (I think) that my great-grandfather bought when he was a teenager. It's in really good shape, which is pretty awesome; it also came with 56 of the original cartridges. If I get some pics I'll post them.

relative to what a cannon?
honestly how is any caliber indoors not bothersome unless you're nearly deaf

It's a very slow, fat round. I shoot my 16 inch barrel AR indoors all the time - about the worst thing you can shoot indoors other than an SBR with some sick ass muzzle break. The concussion shouldn't bother you at all unless you're standing behind the person shooting.
Of course, you were wearing earpro, right?
