Except religion is [I]not[/I] the sole reason why it hasn't been passed on a federal level. People like to argue that the government has no place in defining what marriage is (stupid "states' rights and all that fuckassery). I'm sure there's other non-religious reasons, but that's the one I'm hearing a lot.
