If this is in the wrong section, please move it to the correct section. In a thread I made called "I need a hobby" a user by the name of ScottyWired suggested modeling, I decided to put it under consideration along with other idea's that users posted. So basically I want to make some Models, and hopefully make a model world for a train since I think it would be neat to see a small world with trains and such. I don't know where to start though and I have contacted ScottyWired, he hasn't replied yet though. So could someone who makes models give me some tips and how I should start?
I'm really only an amateur at it, but I'd recommend you start with something that'll get you used to working with plastics and paints. Something cheap, so if you screw up it's not a huge loss.

Have you considered 3D printing?
Have you considered 3D printing?
It is too expensive in Australia.
Well my mom might get me some of the stuff, but she needs to know what it is I need.
-Plastic glue -Acrylic paints -Exacto knife -Space to work with models -Space to display models If I remember correctly, there's also someone on the Airsoft forums who's been doing models for years now. Head there and ask in the Daily Life thread if you have further questions.
Basically where to start, what I should build stuff with.
I would start with airplanes if I were you, simply because they're very straightforward and easy to finish. Of course you'll need your paints, thinners, hobby cement, and brushes (possibly even an airbrush). A hobby knife and some sandpaper will also come into handy, as will Squadron Green Putty. I'd start with a 1/48 scale Revell-Monogram World War Two fighter plane, which you could find at any Michael's arts and craft shop for like 20 bucks.
