With days to go until the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017, Nikkei has released a report that indicates that the Nintendo Switch price point will be 25,000 yen (£175 / €200 / $215).
That news comes after online retailer GameSeek priced the home gaming system at £198.50 with a pre-order guarantee, and rumours swirled that GAME would price the console at £199.99.
The Japanese publication reflected on the importance that late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata placed on building momentum behind their hardware, who had once shared: “… we believe that the video game platform business is a business of momentum. Once you gain momentum, consumers can feel comfortable in choosing your machine. Software makers feel secure to make the applicable titles. These attitudes will further create a positive cycle, like a chain reaction.
Thats amazing. Lets hope its not a blunder.
they're really going to have to justify the DS's price then
At price that low one must think of all the compromises they probably had to make.

its using a nvidia chip
the new nvidia shield announced at ces is 200$ with 4k hdr support for video and full 1080p game quality using the same kind of chip
get me some n64 games on there and I'll bite hard.
Even if Europe / Finland gets the usual $ = € + n (where 'n' is a random number ending in .99 for funsies) it'll still be cheaper than PS4 or Xbone right now. Cool!

If the latest Giant Bombcast is right, Nintendo ATM is slowly killing the 3DS by not sending enough to retailers to match demand.
It's that cheap and they're launching with less available units than the WiiU? Jesus, most people are going to be waiting a long time before they're able to get their hands on this thing.

Typical of Nintendo, unfortunately.

It also:
- isn't portable
- doesn't have a touch screen
- doesn't have a battery
- is twice as big
Considering that the Wii had the same 25,000 Yen pricepoint, I'd guess that it'll be 250$/250€ for US/Europe though

Yep. A friend of mine is a manager at GameStop. They've been out of stock of 3DS/2DS systems since pretty much Black Friday.
Sorry but I call bullshit. The Wii sold for more and it used outdated hardware even at the time. Hell, the Wii U was sold at a loss at 300 dollars.

I think that's the plan, since the pirates finally got to it
You can hack the 3DS on current firmware to run pirated games in about 2.5 hours
Sounds like a steal, compared to the launch price of some consoles.
$215 for the Switch?! I'm fucking all over it if that's true.
It's that cheap and they're launching with less available units than the WiiU?
Wait, where did you get that info?

ARM SoCs are cheap and screens have come way down in cost. I'm sure it's being sold at a loss or at cost, but $215 isn't an unpheasible price. $200 tablets have been around for years.

Also important to note that the PS4 Slim is $230 and they have to compete with that price.

Yeah, I'm not even slightly a Nintendo guy, but I would probably buy one at that price. That's insane if true.
That's cheaper than Wii U launch price.
That's cheaper than Wii launch price.
That's cheaper than 3DS launch price.
The Nvidia SoC is probably pretty cheap, and displays have been getting more and more affordable, so it's not that big of a shock, but hey, that's pretty good.

I thought the Slim was $300
I thought the Slim was $300
its $299, currently $265 at amazon
That would be a day one for me if it's 250$USD or 320$CAD, I can work with that.
its $299, currently $265 at amazon
Huh, the Uncharted bundle was $230 on Amazon for a while. Maybe it was just on sale?
I've had the money hidden since the announcement, but for $215 I can get some games too, guess we'll have to see this Thursday huh?
What does LauraKFuckingScumbag have to say about this?

Its hacked bad. You can even get a "eshop" app for the 3ds that lets you download any title for free. Without a pc

Well that fucking sucks, it's the NES Classic all over again.

And once you have custom firmware and ARM9LoaderHax installed, it's unpatchable. The entry point starts before the OS even boots.
