“After investigating the sample dataset of 100,000 records you forwarded, we have determined that the dataset was dated several years ago, prior to our Neopets acquisition,” Jim Czulewicz, chief revenue officer for JumpStart told Motherboard in an emailed statement. JumpStart acquired Neopets in 2014.

“It is important to note that no credit card or physical address information was included in the dataset and Neopets does not store any customer credit card or other payment information, so that specific data is not at risk of ever being compromised. Our brand is about creating joy and entertainment in the lives of our users and we are committed to always ensuring that experience is delivered in a secure, safe environment,” he added. The number of records hacked allegedly totaled over 70 million, but Motherboard was unable to confirm this. At the time of writing, Neopets has in excess of 90 million users.
http://motherboard.vice.com/en_ca/read/neopets-hack-another-day-another-hack-tens-of-millions-of-neopets-accounts And official Neopets response via facebook:
In order to be transparent with our players and fans, we want to inform you of recent reports that have come to our attention regarding an alleged data breach to our Neopets’ account database in which a large amount of information from player accounts may have been leaked to third parties. To be clear, this is specific to the Usernames, Passwords, Email Addresses, Birthdates, and Countries tied to player accounts. It does NOT include credit card or payment information.
https://www.facebook.com/Neopets/posts/10153966777621005 Just to be clear, this wasn't made public until today after the Vice made a post about it.
Oh my god they still have that game where you beat the shit out of their staff members with a mallet. [t]http://i.imgur.com/zYlLI03.png[/t] [editline]5th May 2016[/editline] Has this site changed at all in the past 10 years?

The only notable change is that you can dress up your pets now. [t]https://i.imgur.com/vzIdNRb.png[/t]

Well I hope whoever has my old account takes better care of my neopets than I did \:v:/
RIP yoshi129. You could only live off of jelly and dinosaur omelets for so long. [editline]5th May 2016[/editline] And the soup kitchen.
So can your neopets still just perpetually starve, or will they actually die now if you don't feed them?
So can your neopets still just perpetually starve, or will they actually die now if you don't feed them?
No I don't think they ever die. But I believe they do prune old inactive accounts.
they purged a bunch of inactive accounts a few years back. the economical thing to do is just leave your pets starving and depressed because it doesn't actually affect much.
didn't the site literally turn into an uncontrollable nightmare last year or was that a fever dream i remember it being filled with massive amounts of spam and pornography and the admins couldn't control it at all
i can't comment on that but i know that people have been getting their accounts hijacked left and right and bad things were being posted from those accounts. the site has a weird history, at one point it was owned by a scientologist and the dude wanted it to be turned into a tool for indoctrination or something.
Weird, I was just wondering the other day if this game was still going. I remember back in high school way after I had stopped playing it I seen one of my teacher on it during some down time in class. He talked about how great he was at it and everything. Never thought I'd see somebody so pumped over Neopets.
I remember linking the roleplay section of the site back in the very early 2000s to people as examples in awful roleplaying practices and what to never do. All a bunch of angst filled Shit-Tier fanfiction roleplays of Inuyasha, cringe inducing wolf nonsense and Let's Pretend to be the Most Disappointing Incarnation of Dragons Ever Seen.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/bk8cmyF.png[/t] there's some weird shit going on. for some reason if you feed a certain type of pet a certain object, a dialogue about preventing pedophiles comes up
[t]http://i.imgur.com/bk8cmyF.png[/t]
What even is artstyle consistency
What even is artstyle consistency
Too hard
-snip- there's some weird shit going on. for some reason if you feed a certain type of pet a certain object, a dialogue about preventing pedophiles comes up -snip-
This is likely some fucky non-null-terminated string issue, where 'random' data (read, congruent) is being returned as part of the intended string (..."my FAVOURITE!!!'"). It's a typical programmer mistake.

I thought Neopets was supposed to be child friendly. :disgust:
I feel like someone has done this a long time ago, and was waiting to see how long it would take for people to notice. And it has escalated to this point. We must go deeper.
I feel like someone has done this a long time ago, and was waiting to see how long it would take for people to notice. And it has escalated to this point. We must go deeper.
about a year or two ago I stood up an account to see all what had changed on there since I was younger and the answer was not much lmao some buried sections of the site looked to be untouched for at least 10 years; there has got to be stuff all over
I want to log in to see how dead my pet is but I don't think I used a real e-mail for the account and I forgot my password :pudge:
I still remember my credentials from like 10 years ago. I even sometimes log in like once a year just to see what it's like sometimes.
Holy shit I remembered my login details My pet is 4,952 days old. That's 13.5 years. The average lifespan of a dog is 10-13yrs so the vast majority of dogs born on the same day as I created my virtual dog are now deceased.

I hope she remembered to close her eyes
