That would make Windows 10 Mobile, which as of now, continues to support ARM only, and Continuum a lot more interesting, especially to business users who need certain Win32/line-of-business apps. Last night, @h0x0d, WalkingCat on Twitter, found a reference to what he termed "Windows's hybrid x86-on-ARM64 tech." He noted that this technology seemingly has a new name, "CHPE." [t]http://zdnet3.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2016/11/21/0df44dee-c5f9-421e-b8ca-72fbaf407ad6/resize/770xauto/68556a98bf6cbda13f85d330b0637505/chpeinwin10redstone3.jpg[/t] My sources say the "C" in this stands for "Cobalt," which is the codename for x86 emulation on ARM. (Cobalt also is Mojang-related, as is Redstone.)
THe HPE could be HP working with Microsoft on emulation, hence 'E'. This is big news for WM, if they get this working then it might become popular. I know that if I could buy a phone that could run full x86 applications, I'd get it instantly.
Wowww suddenly continuum will actually become useful
Wondering what the performance will be like. Is this supposed to allow ARM to emulate individual x86 applications, or does it mean you can run Windows on ARM devices?
I would think PE would mean portable executable (.exe), not HP.
Inline tweet, can see the images for yourself
I wonder if they'll reach out to exagear as this worked quite well on my raspberry pi 1

This would theoretically allow ARM at least limited backwards compatibility with the literal decades of legacy x86 applications that ARM has zero compatibility with right now.
will PC's always ne x86? It seems hard to imagine that they will be, even if backwards compatibility demands it.

I've always been interested to self host a Teamspeak server, but I'm not paying $30 for the privilege.

It took forever to start up the teamspeak server but after that it was fine and dandy. It also creates its own little user environment thing so keeping x86 applications separate wasn't a worry (which it shouldn't be anyway).
This is some interesting stuff. Could be a game changer.
For a while there's been whispers of x86 Windows phones running full Windows 10. Kinda sad that won't be the case but I guess power consumption would be a mess.
i just want portable rollercoaster tycoon, how do I make this happen.
x86 increased power usage is less important than its increased speed for most PCs.
so thats literally qemu but wrapped in an expensive package
will PC's always ne x86? It seems hard to imagine that they will be, even if backwards compatibility demands it.
Intel has already tried and failed multiple times to replace x86, and it's gone as badly as you'd expect. The problem is that they'll always have reduced performance in x86 code, which now has the inertia of literal decades of x86 legacy infrastructure. And even if we did abandon x86, it's hard to imagine at our point any real performance gains being eked out when we're already at our current process node.
i just want portable rollercoaster tycoon, how do I make this happen.
Compatability mode xp x86?
https://wiki.openttd.org/Portable_device_version
Transport Tycoon =/= Rollercoaster Tycoon.
They need something to rescue Windows 10 Mobile. My Lumia 950XL was a fantastic device hardware wise but there's just no third party support what so ever. They really needed to make a x86 Surface phone, hopefully this does something for them.
