(AP) MOSCOW - Kazakhstan has called the playing of a spoof of its national anthem at an international sporting event "a scandal" and demanded an investigation of the incident. Maria Dmitrienko won a gold medal for Kazakhstan on Thursday at the Arab Shooting Championships in Kuwait, but during the award ceremony the public address system broadcast the spoof anthem from the 2006 movie "Borat," which offended many Kazakhs by portraying the country as backward and degenerate. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ilyas Omarov told the ITAR-Tass news agency the incident "is, of course, a scandal and demands a thorough investigation, which we intend to conduct." ITAR-Tass quoted shooting team member Oksana Stavitskaya as saying that Asian Shooting Federation President Sheikh Salman al-Sabah had apologized to the team. "Sheikh Salman personally apologized to us. He recognized that the use of the music from the scandalous film in place of the anthem of Kazakhstan was completely a mistake of the organizers. He explained that the awards ceremony was conducted by a firm under contract," Stavitskaya said. The Kazakh news agency Tengri quoted team coach Anvar Yunusmetov as saying tournament organizers had downloaded various countries' national anthems from the Internet. An excerpt of the "Borat" anthem: "Kazakhstan, greatest country in the world. All other countries are run by little girls. Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium. Other countries have inferior potassium. . . ." Later on Saturday, the event's organizers in Kuwait also apologized to the Kazakh delegation regarding the "unintentional" mistake of playing the "wrong national anthem" during the awards ceremony, according to the statement published on the state-owned Kuwait News Agency. The Organizing Committee, in a statement, said the mistake was corrected and the national anthem of Kazakhstan was replayed afterward. The committee expressed "deep sorrow" for the mistake and reaffirmed that ties between the sporting communities of the two countries remained strong.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57403849/borat-anthem-at-sport-event-angers-kazakhstan/
the Arab Shooting Championships
That, for some reason, sounds very very wrong.
That, for some reason, sounds very very wrong.
I was afraid to say something about that, but yes.
That's the one, by the way
I laughed harder than I should have at it too. ^ Automerge
Bullshit, we all know this is a plot by the dirty Uzbekistan to make Kazakhstan look bad for atrocities like allowing women to ride on the wagon and not having them pull it.
Kazakhstan run by little girls
here's the video. watch her face lol
They obviously did that on purpose and not by mistake, it would be impossible to confuse that with the real national anthem
Actually, If the Borat one was the first I heard, and I didn't know English, I'd think it's the real one :v:
Honestly I think it could have been a case of the event organisers looking for the Kazakh national anthem and the first result in Google being the Borat version. If you didn't speak English it would be hard to tell. This is the first youtube result: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv5jLsLoYcE If you weren't familiar with Borat then there's really no way to be sure from just the video.

Not being able to tell those apart, it'd be an easy mistake to make if you don't do any research.
Number 1 exporter of Potassium all other countries have inferior Potassium http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080404202219AATwEn0 what the fuck is this garbage
That's the one, by the way
The Tinshein Swimming Pool part always gets me. "Filtration system a marvel to behold! It remove 80% of human solid waste!":v:
Here's what I think happened. Some lazy jerkoff of an AV crewman went looking for an MP3 of the Kazakh national anthem online, downloaded the first one he found, and played it over the PA, never suspecting...
It was probably those Uzbekistan assholes.
You can tell a government is bad if they respond to an incident like this by losing their shit rather than joking about it
You can tell a government is bad if they respond to an incident like this by losing their shit rather than joking about it
you can tell a country is ass-backwards if they don't give a shit about you publicly humiliating them by playing a degrading cover of their national anthem
you can tell a country is ass-backwards if they don't give a shit about you publicly humiliating them by playing a degrading cover of their national anthem
senseless nationalism is counter productive to your society they should just get the fuck over it, who cares about a national anthem
The biggest problem is that Kazakhstan didn't quite get the fact that Borat was a parody on how some americans imagine countries they haven't even heard of before. They simply thought that the movie was a regular parody on their country, and they understandibly got extremely mad when the movie got so popular.
They care. Right now the perception of Kazakhstan by much of the west is that of Borat. It's an extremely obscure country that in the eyes of millions is a joke. They don't have much to show for themselves and the mockery of the country is the only thing people will ever remember. It's kind of depressing.
seriously? every time i watch team america im not taking a shit over your country am i. nobody in the world who takes a serious view on america sees them only as 'AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!' its this kind of shit that starts wars and gives borders to humanity. being a patriot is the same as being proud of an aryan race

Fuck patriotism.

We had an exchange student from there when I was in high school the same year Borat came out. She was utterly disgusted by it.

I think the reason you're all seeing this and comparing it to, say, the 'America, Fuck Yeah!' song playing in place of the real anthem, is that you all typically hear about what the US is doing. You never hear about Kazakhstan. You have no idea what they're doing or what the country is even like. Now look at Borat. This is all most people know when they think Kazakhstan. They don't want to be thought of like that.

When something happens in America, or any other major country for that matter, there are always a wide range of opinions. WHen Kazakhstan hits the news, the first thing that pops into most people's minds is "lol Borat" [editline]25th March 2012[/editline]
I think the reason you're all seeing this and comparing it to, say, the 'America, Fuck Yeah!' song playing in place of the real anthem, is that you all typically hear about what the US is doing.
