Flesh out the OP to garner more attention, make people more interested and prevent getting the thread deleted. I've heard of the show, but a little more information might make me want to watch it! Pictures etc. comparisons to Sherlock (a British show written by Steven Moffat), why it's different / better if that is applicable. How true is it to the original Sherlock Holmes books? Are the adaptions acceptable? Or is it americanised? So many questions the OP can answer! Is Watson a woman?
i havent read any books about it or watched another show. watson is lucy liu.
Some people like it but it's just something to fill in the long gaps between Sherlock. It was an obvious cash in on the Sherlock success from day one. But it's not as bad as it should've been. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] Actually CBS originally contacted the Sherlock crew about an american version which they said no. This was commissioned after. It's believed they made Watson a woman so it's obviously not Sherlock.
this looks hatefully bad but it can't be worse than the british one tbh

this show is great, the stories are good and keep you guessing till the end
It's completely different to Sherlock They made Sherlock less of a social outcast for the sake of making him more relatable to an American audience. The whole show has a real vibe of the writers being afraid to develop psychologically complicated characters. The mystery plots are weaker as well, the information should be on the table to begin with to keyed-in watchers can figure it out, too many times new information comes out of nowhere right at the end and it doesn't have the same "it was in front of you the whole time" vibe. It's also really formulaic, and it suffers from only being 45 minutes long. I'm starting to appreciate Sherlock's length more, because they try to cram way too much into 45 minutes, and it doesn't give anything time to settle and the viewer has no time to think things over. It's probably intentionally this way for the sake of being constantly exciting, but I feel like it misses the point a little. The whole show has a kind of "dumbed down for american audiences" feeling. Not as much as some shows, but it's still there. I like it a lot tbh, I think it's really good. But they should've just made it its own thing, rather than trying to shape it as a Sherlock Holmes adaptation. It's different enough that allusions to Conan Doyle's work would be seen as just that, and not unoriginality. I don't really think it's better or worse than Sherlock. Sherlock is a better adaptation, that much is certain, but I think they're completely different, in atmosphere and character dynamic. They really can't be compared and you should just watch both of them.
jonny is fantastic

I watched this show for a few minutes one time. I learned that they made Holmes like a recovering alcoholic who never drinks whatsoever, and certainly doesn't use any other illicit substances.

In the beginning of the show, Holmes has just come out of rehab, since he became a heroine addict after a particularly depressing case in London. He moved to New York, and Watson is his sponsor- basically she's there to make sure he doesn't become an addict again. Not an alcoholic. And not using illicit substances is part of his conflict, at various points he considers just using them, but you have to watch the show to understand why.
Forgot to mention this, but the music's a bit lacking. Sherlock's soundtrack is hard to beat, sure, but the songs that were actually made for the show don't sound very good.
The show isn't anything special but worth watching it and I think it's quite good.
Never even seen it...Been meaning to but meh.
