• New copyright law lets the government cut your interwebs if you pirate.
The internet chapter of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, a secret copyright treaty whose text Obama's administration refused to disclose due to "national security" concerns, has leaked. It's bad. It says: * That ISPs have to proactively police copyright on user-contributed material. This means that it will be impossible to run a service like Flickr or YouTube or Blogger, since hiring enough lawyers to ensure that the mountain of material uploaded every second isn't infringing will exceed any hope of profitability. * That ISPs have to cut off the Internet access of accused copyright infringers or face liability. This means that your entire family could be denied to the internet -- and hence to civic participation, health information, education, communications, and their means of earning a living -- if one member is accused of copyright infringement, without access to a trial or counsel. * That the whole world must adopt US-style "notice-and-takedown" rules that require ISPs to remove any material that is accused -- again, without evidence or trial -- of infringing copyright. This has proved a disaster in the US and other countries, where it provides an easy means of censoring material, just by accusing it of infringing copyright. * Mandatory prohibitions on breaking DRM, even if doing so for a lawful purpose (e.g., to make a work available to disabled people; for archival preservation; because you own the copyrighted work that is locked up with DRM)
JUST TRY AND GET ME BEHIND MY SEVEN BOXXIES. I could have sworn I read this somewhere in this very section on this very page. No, sorry.. I must be mistaken.
I read this yesterday. I'll pirate whatever I want, and if they don't like me they can kiss my ass. (User was banned for this post ("Or we can ban you. Pirate." - GunFox))
I'm sure there's already a thread on this.
Nothing will come of this. Which is good. [editline]06:57PM[/editline]
I read this yesterday. I'll pirate whatever I want, and if they don't like me they can kiss my ass.
Or sue you.

Only if your a hot pirate chick. .
The ACTA has been 'in negotiation' since 2008, and as it turns out (no surprise) most of the insane bullshit in it is stuff that groups like the RIAA proposed. It'll never survive the negotiation process. What made them think that after the fight with Pirate Bay exploded in their faces that going full INGSOC would be the way to go?
Is this Obama's doing?

What the fuck is with the american government and blaming everything on national security? Who's in danger, exactly? And from who? It's own people? You damn right it is. And it should stay that way.

no, go back to snorting coke on you ranch

I hope you know that McCain and Bush had their own policies on Net Neutrality, and guess what? McCain himself has already said that he'd do away with net neutrality. He was totally slanted in favor of the money that would be made from such a deal.
Good luck having the whole world doing your bidding US.
Does this mean the internet will go extinct? :saddowns:
Is this also in Canada?

where have you gone?
Looks like a very biased source for something that is never going to happen. To me anyways.
Pretty soon all of the internet will be banned, then there will be a revolt, or we find new ways to pirate.
where have you gone?
He's leaving his essence in Canada.
In other news, the EU just turned down the Telecoms Reform package, which included bullshit like this. Thank god.

Yeah, I never really had reason to hate you besides the FUCKING PATRIOT ACT but atleast you didn't fuck with the internet, something bigger that can't be controlled a world superpower.
We must smuggle internet 2.
Well, you ARE pirating something, it makes sense, but its not practical. You do realise that if this goes through it will ruin the lives of literally millions of people. Just think about it. Most people who pirate are teenagers, children or young adults, (and the children probably don't know what copyright is, let alone that it is illegal). In the future, probably about 90% of the world's economy will rely on the internet in some fashion, and if people can't access it they will be doomed to a life of dead-end jobs and low wages. People born in the 90s and 00s have a life expectancy of more than 100 now. No internet, for 100 years.
