Update: It's also coming to Xbox One and PC. It's just a launch exclusive because Sony is providing additional funding throughout development.
The gameplay looks alright the art style is pretty terrible.
that artstyle looks awful

looks like its staying true to all of the souls games then

except the good gameplay part
Art direction is gross. And it doesn't look like they've really borrowed much from souls except for some aspects just superficial enough to get random games media people calling it 2d Darksouls. Also listening to the people commentating on the video was awful.
How about making an original game rather than making a bad clone, they could've at least changed the graphics style.
It's like making a 2D platformer version of Quake, same gameplay mechanics, less dimensions, less fun.

The souls games aren't anything impressive graphically but it's not bad, it's just okay. Whereas this looks pretty bad, and I hope they redesign the game because it's a solid idea.
Had to make this :

I'll need to know a bit more about the back story and how it involves salt (since it is the primary currency in this game) but it seems like it's fitting. They're going for some sort of Silent Hill/Dark Souls ethereal atmosphere and I think it works pretty good.
A 2D Dark Souls clone would work better in an isometric style more than a platformer.
Also, that art style really looks cheap and ugly.

Given how much work is needed to make a proper clone and how much this game will be criticized unless it's amazing, I think it'd be easier to make something entirely new. This leads me to believe that this really is a project of love. Someone sitting down and thinking "I can't work at From Software but I might be able to make something similar"

Titan Souls looks like it'd be up your alley. Don't know if it's really a Souls-like game yet but it looks interesting.
Dark Souls is more or less 3D Castlevania (at least more so than Lords of Shadow), so wouldn't a 2D Dark Souls just be Castlevania?

the problem is with the way characters looks as well as the SHEF that blurs out everything

Eh, it's a Castlevania-like game but it still has crazy amounts of customization and the multiplayer components making it quite different. Either way, I'm happy this is getting made because recent Castlevania titles haven't appealed to me and I think a 2D Souls game could do quite well, given there's enough of an end game to justify playing it for more than a single playthrough.
