This guy is a reoccurring train wreck of hilarity.
I'm starting to think he does it deliberately to get viewers.

god dammit..
He's also complained about Youtube's copyright system, and then told his fans to spam flag everyone making videos about him (which is quite illegal as these videos do not violate copyright and his fans don't hold that copyright anyway).
Also "and beats the game within a few days", I find it really hard to believe he can pull that off considering how long it takes him to learn the most basic of things, like jumping.
Phil talks about integrity and how you shouldn't only do things for money, yet he's constantly bitching about how little views some of his playthroughs get.
Him constantly snorting up mucus is literally making me gag, I couldn't continue watching after the third time

The very definition of a bait and switch.
Even though it was unintentional :v:
this is HIGHLY ILLEGAL
I was getting ready to tweet out this video as it buffered but I watched it through and you know, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he's a hypocrite somewhat in this video, but he's correct.
1) Breaking street date is an issue for the retailer, not the player.
2) I don't see an issue with downloading a demo that was only available through shitty means. It's a demo.
3) Pirating a game for emulation is not infringement if he owns the games. The video did not show evidence if he owned those games or not, unlikely, but it's not clear.
4) Playing a game early is fine, uploading a playthough of a game is fine, uploading a game early is fine, HOWEVER the problem with watch_dogs is that all official, fair, and rule abiding press cannot post reviews, gameplay, or anything of Watch_Dogs until midnight EST on May 27th. Some channels DO have permission straight from watchdogs to post content of certain aspects of the game. DSP uploading a playthrough of the game before release isn't necessarily bad unless there was an embargo for content.
To me this video was grasping at straws, though granted DSP did say some incorrect things like saying posting the footage before release was illegal or something. It's not.
Edit: See responses below.
So this guy is still a thing? After all these years and all the controversy this guy is still out there selling his stupidity.
does he have a sinus infection or something
in is fucking brain
SNORT
DSP is still an idiot..

That's actually dependant on a number of things ranging from who made the game, to where you live, to whether or not you personally made the rom dump yourself. Nintendo's stance, for instance:
Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?
There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

Wow! A video relating to DSP that isn't longer than an hour!
Usually I get trapped in the "can't look away from the train wreck" trap and keep watching and the videos are always absurdly long, luckily this time it won't make me lose my entire evening.

For 1 DSP says he doesn't support piracy and his excuse is that Capcom was screwing him over. While Capcom is a dick he still was pirating something that was included in a paid product, think Halo 3 beta with Crackdown or the DOOM beta that came with Wolfenstein preorder.
2nd, Earthbound was 1 month away from being released on WiiU, which he owned. That can be somewhat excused because he probably didn't have his old cartridge, BUT THEN HE HAS 4 OTHER GAMES THAT ARE READILY AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE, why does he have them on there when he prefers console to pc? I think its because hes lazy and doesn't want to rebuy it.
He even has a playthrough of A Link to the Past, where he calls it one of his favorite games of all time, yet hes playing it with an emulator and configures stuff mid game, why not just buy it on the Virtual Console for $5?
Its just DSP being DSP (a hypocrite)
C. SECTION 117 COMPUTER PROGRAM EXEMPTIONS
Section 117 of the Copyright Act of 1976 was enacted in the Computer Software Copyright Amendments of 1980 in response to the recommendations of the National Commission on New Technological Uses of Copyrighted Works' (CONTU). Section 117 permits the owner of a copy of a computer program to make an additional copy of the program for purely archival purposes if all archival copies are destroyed in the event that continued possession of the computer program should cease to be rightful, or where the making of such a copy is an essential step in the utilization of the computer program in conjunction with a machine and that it is used in no other manner.
Looks like it only legally counts if it's you yourself doing the backup or archival. Otherwise, I don't see why Nintendo's stance matters.

1) True, but at the same time I think people are only harping on that because it's DSP. What he did is not really all that rare, and along with that the term piracy is a bit muddied besides downloading something that is a paid product. If he had purchased the disk or whatever, and still decided to download it, would that be considered piracy. The point I'm making is that in this specific instance, I don't think DSP is as hypocritical as it would seem on the surface.
2) I have no idea, I don't use a Wii, WiiU or virtualconsole. I have no stance on that

He literally said he doesn't support piracy at all, and then pirated something.
Man, the people who make these videos must really hate DSP to sit through his monologues and put him in a bad light by nitpicking shit that happened years ago or something as insignificant as pirating ROMs for SNES games

To be fair it's really easy to find reasons to hate DSP.

It's the "train wreck you can't look away from" effect, it's oddly entertaining.
Guys guys. Listen. Remember that this is all coming from a guy who prefers using a Camera instead of Screen Capture as the camera records his uber awesome 7.1 surround sound.
why do we do these threads when it's obvious dsp is either trolling or legit retarded, its not news, and it's hardly interesting anymore. if it's funny the joke has worn off. just being honest.
I feel like the only reason to bring up DSP again is if he goes full retard and does something catastrophically fucking stupid.
I just like to pretend he doesn't exist.

i kinda feel like he is living this exact lifestyle day in and day out already though?

Everytime DSP does anything, it makes me question how he can function.
