Same shit they did with Korean Air 007, when the Russian Federation handed over the black boxes to the UN they had to check to make sure the Soviets didn't tamper with the evidence (splicing key information or whatever)

There's a possibility that when the missile hit they didn't break up immediately so the CVR might of recorded the pilots reaction, I doubt it but there's a possibility

They'll be able to determine it with the CVR and FDR, if there is no more recording then the plane broke up immediately

If it didn't then it hit another area of the plane (possibly the tail) which would of caused huge decompression only to blow up later

But they still need access to the wreckage to piece the puzzle together, knowing the entire debacle I wouldn't be surprised if the rebels throughout/hid pieces that indicated a missile

If and only if the rebels had access to the recordings/info makes this conclussion somehow...realistic.

Think about, if you know this proves you blew a plane...why give it away...why not make them...."dissapear" such as if they were stolen

Do you think we should assume that if the investigation does not point towards the rebels that evidence must have been tampered with?

What if the black box actually contains no usable info?

Let's be realistic here, with some limited knowledge on passenger jets, I'm guessing black boxes don't record anything to do with projectiles nearby, which means there'd be no way of knowing where the missile came from, who it was made by, or any other info useful in determining who shot the plane down.

I could be missing something here but I fail to see the benefit the info on the black box could provide, other than the precise time/location the impact occurred

If an expert could chime in on what exactly the black boxes could tell us, I'd appreciate it

For this the cockpit voice recorder would provide more useful info than the blackbox, since we are all but sure it was an external threat.

They give investigators a clearer picture of what happened. It's standard procedure to analyze the black boxes after any incident.

missile launched at mach 2, boosted to mach 3.5 before detonating next to the plane doubt they had any clue what happened at all
