Today I took a walk at Imeretinskaya Nizmennost, wherre the Olympic park is located. The park, which looks incredible on official pictures, looks way different in real life: the pavements are falling apart, all the buildings are either not built yet or are under repairs, and everything is covered in trash. There are no dumpsters in the Olympic park due to "safety reasons"
More pictures in the source: http://blogsochi.ru/content/olimpiada-cherez-zadnitsu
not a big suprise, i read a book written like 3 years ago when they talked about sochi and all the money being siphoned off to oligarchs leaving a tiny fraction of it for actual construction
It's funny because a vast majority of what they build will wind up abandoned and crumbling after the Olympics end.
Looks like they're running a little slow. . . I'm sorry.
It's funny because a vast majority of what they build will wind up abandoned and crumbling after the Olympics end.
it'll probably end up like the athens olympics It's pretty depressing to look at.

Omg all the pieces add up! Russia is using the terrorist threat as a ploy to hold off the Olympics so they can build Wake up sheepie.
It's pretty depressing to look at.
Russia is just ahead of the curve then.
Those Athens pictures are extremely depressing. To think that at one time they were used for great cheer and competition watched by all around the world and now just to...nothing. wow.

Those Athens pictures strike an uncanny similarity to actual ancient Greek arena ruins.
Outside of the Richmond Oval turning into a financial clusterfuck after the olympics, I don't think any of the 2010 venues are not being used. Then again, we did reuse a lot of existing venues.
It's funny because a vast majority of what they build will wind up abandoned and crumbling after the Olympics end.
doesn't that sum up life in a former-soviet country anyway?
doesn't that sum up life in a former-soviet country anyway?
The stadiums built for Euro 2012 are still being used actively, except for the one in Lviv, which is temporarily closed. But I guess football gets way more attention than any Olympic sport

its russia why is this a suprise
Alot of it is actually funded by Oligarch's, not the state.
Those Athens pictures strike an uncanny similarity to actual ancient Greek arena ruins.
I think that was the plan, too. To make the architecture look like ancient Greek theathers, because it's Greece, and the olympics are ancient.
The olympic stuff from the Los Angeles olympics is still used regularly from what I see.
Oh no, not the trash! The Olympics are RUINED!
it'll probably end up like the athens olympics It's pretty depressing to look at.
that's pretty disappointing and wasteful at the same time. Last time I was in Barcelona I even took a look at the stadium which hosted the Olympics and it's still in great shape and is still being used to host other events
Isn't everyone basically boycotting this one though because of Russia's stance on gays and whatnot
Isn't everyone basically boycotting this one though because of Russia's stance on gays and whatnot
Well that and the terrorist threats.
Oh no, not the trash! The Olympics are RUINED!
Well yeah, it's an international event so everything has to be perfect. Even if not perfect, it should at least be better than this
Doesn't give me much hope for Russia organising the 2018 World Cup. Were preparations for the games bad when Russia was announced as the World Cup hosters? Because it really makes me smell a rat if it was and I'm not the only one. I think there has been many allegations of corruption in the process since then.
this partly does remind me a bit of the london olympics prep. the media were trying to create worry about it for years, constantly reporting about everything being behind schedule and showing shitty photographs of overcast construction sites and then lo and behold everything went to plan and it was brilliant. almost as if the people organising one of the biggest events on the planet actually knew what they were doing. crazy isn't it
Well that and the terrorist threats.
Who in their right mind thought it would be smart to host the Olympics 300~ miles away from a very unstable area full of terroristic attacks should be slapped.

Sochi is like the last place I think of when I think of winter. It doesn't even have snow
Olympics these days aren't much more than tradeshows for antiterrorism.
No that's ISDEF'S job.
