During a family Thanksgiving dinner in Mobile, Ala., Travis Hawkins beat Mallory Owens (pictured at left), the girlfriend of his sister, Alex Hawkins. Travis Hawkins did not approve of their lesbian relationship and allegedly pummeled Owens, reports the Daily Mail. Owens was hospitalized for a broken nose and numerous injuries. Her eyes were swollen shut and she had to receive reconstruction surgery. Travis Hawkins was arrested on Sunday and charged with second-degree assault. Owen's mother Kristi Taylor told WKRG-TV: "He tried to kill her. He's lucky he didn't kill her. She's lucky to be alive. I didn't recognize her when I got here. It's hard to look at her like that. I did not want her to go, I begged her not to go, knowing how the family felt about her. But she said, 'They're trying to be nice.'" Owens' sister Avery Godwin told AL.com that Travis Hawkins called her on Friday and said "that he would finish what he started last night with Mallory." Earlier this year, Travis Hawkins allegedly hit Owens over the head with a pipe wrench, but no charges were filed. In response to the latest incident, a Facebook group entitled 'Charge Travis Hawkins Jr. with the attempted murder of Mallory Owens' has gotten nearly 600 likes in less than a day.
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/gay-issues/video-mallory-owens-beaten-travis-hawkins-gay-relationship-his-sister What a massive piece of shit. She's back home now and her face isn't as bad as it is in that picture anymore. I wouldn't charge for assault, i'd charge for attempted murder, because that's clearly what he intended.
I wouldn't charge for assault, i'd charge for attempted murder, because that's clearly what he intended.
That's Alabama for ya.
what a shit fuck im tired of this anti-gay ass truck load horse diarrhea i seriously hope this buttery ass fuckfizzle goes straight to prison
as terrible as this is, it seems a bit disrespectful to take and publish a picture of the injured person.
we're calling him a man? men don't beat women. this guy is a shithead, not a man.
Aw, jeez, I did not need to see that.
i fucking hate people who will go out and actually hurt someone for being wh they are "i'm going almost kill you because I hate the fact that you are X or you believe in X"
I did not want her to go, I begged her not to go, knowing how the family felt about her. But she said, 'They're trying to be nice.'"
What??
what a fucking psycho
What??
Read the other links. The sister's whole family didn't approve of the lesbian relationship, not just the brother.
Read the other links. The sister's whole family didn't approve of the lesbian relationship, not just the brother.
But only the brother attempted to beat her to death. You can be irritated with the family for their beliefs about lesbian relationships all you want, but only a single member attempted to kill another human being.
So glad I've taken up Krav Maga. There are so many people who would do this to me for being myself if they had the chance. Holding a partners hand in public becomes nerve racking just because of it.
She says her brother's actions are not justified, but he had his own reasons for the attack. They are reasons that will be released when the time is right.

"It's not a hate crime at all," said Ally Hawkins. "We both know the reason why this happened, and it doesn't make any excuses for him, I'm not defending him at all. I know why he was angry, and that will come out."
Interesting...
we're calling him a man? men don't beat women. this guy is a shithead, not a man.
please let's not start this argument (even though it will start shortly)
Interesting...
be intresting if it turns out the girl was her brothers girlfriend and the brothers girlfriend turned his girlfriend gay and went out with his sister if this makes any sense
I wouldn't charge for assault, i'd charge for attempted murder, because that's clearly what he intended.
Attempted murder charges may as well be the same as murder just because you failed to commit a crime doesn't mean you shouldn't be punished as bad, is harsh as it might sound.
fucking kill him, christ
as terrible as this is, it seems a bit disrespectful to take and publish a picture of the injured person.
Drives the point home imo
That's Alabama for ya.
Was going to post this. They consider gay people down there to be a lower form of life.
what a shit fuck im tired of this anti-gay ass truck load horse diarrhea i seriously hope this buttery ass fuckfizzle goes straight to prison
You certainly have a way with words
Wonderful. Trying to kill someone because of their sexual orientation. Someone should beat that sick fuck up just in return.
please let's not start this argument (even though it will start shortly)
What argument? Is he not a shithead? [editline]28th November 2012[/editline]
Attempted murder charges may as well be the same as murder just because you failed to commit a crime doesn't mean you shouldn't be punished as bad, is harsh as it might sound.
the intent is there, it's sort if silly to lessen his punishment because he's not very good at killing people
I bet his sister is happy as a motherfucker to have a brother like that. They should give him a few decades to sit in jail and think about stuff.
They looked like a cute pair. What's wrong with him?
It's wonderful how in the last link they interview the victim and her girlfriend and the two of them are going on about how it is not a hate crime and that they'll give the reason for the brother doing it when they feel the time is right or some bullshit like that. The fact of the matter is that by all accounts the brother beat the girlfriend into that condition, and unless she tried killing him, which I seriously doubt, there is no excuse for doing something like that to another person, no matter what reason they may have. But the brother's dumbass lawyer just goes "Oh these people don't know the whole story and are making the entire situation worse. We'll say why he did the things he did in the future." It's HE that is making the situation worse by apparently withholding information that could change everyone's mind. I mean, it's not like everyone just took this one news story and ran with it, excluding contradicting information. This is the only source of information we have at the moment. And then the victim goes on to say how this isn't a hate crime because she doesn't hate the family. There are so many facts that are twisted or just plain don't exist that everything about this story smells really fishy.
They looked like a cute pair. What's wrong with him?
Alabama.
Who doesn't like lesbians? Seriously
Who doesn't like lesbians? Seriously
I don't like lesbians more than other people, there's no reason to just "like" lesbians. It's pointless, it's like saying "I like black people". Just because people belong to a certain group, it doesn't mean that they're all just the most perfect people in the world.
Why can't we all just love and tolerate?
