This was one of my favorite VR presentations- the secondary view really helps with showing this stuff off. The whole time though I was just wondering who of the Facepunch staff made the weird critter noises, which kinda distracted me.
That's pretty neat!

Jeff was pretty high on it afterwards, too.
I get a little bit of an uncanny valley feeling when you see the player in third-person. The motion is so human-like (because it is) but all you see is a VR headset and the controllers.
the bit at 20:45 where he made those loops was damn impressive. this shit is neAt
Aren't these the same guys who made a half-hour long video talking mad shit about VR, saying it was a fad, comparing it to the Wii and literally hated (without exception) every single game they tried? He seems to be enjoying it now.

[editline]22nd April 2016[/editline] They liked a lot of the games and have been supporters of VR from the start, the only thing they've said that the price is currently just a little too high to justify the purchase, considering the few games that have come out so far.
No? There was a cut down version of their multi hour long stream that only focused on the negatives, you might of just seen that and blindly assumed the rest.
It was posted here in it's own thread without any context and everyone took that thirty minute video as their final opinions on the Vive. And the conversation went on for six pages. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1513729 This video is the only thing I've ever seen of them and just watching this video as it was posted in the thread without any other information just gave me the impression they literally disliked the Vive in every aspect. The entire video is them just pointing out negative after negative after negative and never saying anything good and looking incredibly bored or disappointed with it. Hence why my opinion of them hating VR was formed. This is the first time I've been given any evidence to the contrary. Like, this video is so frequently posted and spread I had people come up to me and say "I heard you got a Vive, Giantbomb said it's literally a Wii right? How disappointed are you?" So it's out there and I'm not the only one to formulate that opinion.
That's a 30 minute cherry picked video of an 11 hour stream where they were having genuine fun and wonderment. Now whether or not they think it's worth the $800 as of right now is another story, but it's not like they hate it. In fact, they've been huge proponents of VR as a budding media format.
Shitty nitpicking video
Have fun
There are also some more positive compilation videos from those all-day launch-day livestreams:
Giant Bomb's been my favorite videogame personality site for almost a decade, it sucks to see a lot of peoples first intro to their stuff be that supercut VR video. Not necessarily the most faithful video to what they really think.

https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1513729
wow you're even cherrypicking the negativity out of the thread the entire thread (and that video) can be summed up with this one quote

Dude this is hella cool. Makes me wish I owned like 20 acres of land and a 2 mile long HDMI cable
A bunch of people including myself pointed out that that small video is cherrypicking. If you read the thread, you'd know that. "Those guys" are Giant Bomb. They're a fairly influential gaming news and personality site. The person who made that video are not Giant Bomb. They took clips from the Giant Bomb full stream to make it look like they hated it. They do not hate VR or the Vive. They are realistic about it, but they do not hate VR. If you read the thread you would, again, know this, as I know I've pretty much said as much. If you're going to continue and argue Giant Bomb hates VR then I can open up the stream and show you examples of them legitimately enjoying and praising the things they liked out of the various Vive games they played. I watched the entirety of the Giant Bomb stream and that thing actually sold me more on VR, not turned me off of it. The closest thing they had to hatred was saying that VR is too expensive for most consumers, which is so far away from opinion it's basically fact.
I think they were kind of negative against VR after the (kinda) underwhelming first stream with the Rift. And while they were still playing just tech demos and small crappy indie games which were cash-outs they were just as negative. but then Jeff played Hover Junkers, and it made him look like a fucking serial killer as he loved shooting fools. If you skip to any parts of the Vive giant bomb stream just go look at the hover junkers and budget cuts parts, they really show how Giant Bomb is sceptical (as they should be), but see mad potential.
They were pretty positive about Job Simulator too.
^ I didn't realize there was negativity surrounding Job Simulator, other than the steep price point.

I watched this just to see what problems it has. So far, my (own personal) problems with it so far are: -Too expensive. (Easily fixable with hardware becoming cheaper in the future) -No real compelling software. (Again, easily fixable with companies developing software for it) -Requires a decent amount of room space. -Can trip over the cable/other things in the room and maybe injure yourself (i wouldn't doubt if that does happen in the future, even a little.)

Another thing, you need a pretty powerful PC to run VR which is also a important note.
God, these VR videos make me so damn jelly. Every time there's new tech. Many of us can't do nothing but just look and wait for years until price drops and shi-.
I don't get the negativity for Job Simulator. It is undoubtedly waaaaay too expensive for what it actually is but as a showpiece for just the kinds of wackiness VR can turn from boring on traditional media to fun in VR it's a fairly good example of that. Doesn't help that, as far as the writing goes in these "lol so wacky" simulator games it's a bit better than most because the premise itself is actually pretty decent. "What robots think a job is in a society where no humans have jobs anymore," is a decent setup for jokes and it uses that premise to the effect you'd want, so no complaints on that front. If Job Simulator were, like, $5-10 and I had a VR headset I'd probably pick it up just to use as something to show off the kinds of 'mess around' stuff you can do in VR that you can't really make fun otherwise, to friends who are both gamer and non-gamer alike. Otherwise, no. And really, a lot of the VR stuff right now is kinda like that, but I think it'll shake out over time. They were also fairly positive about some parts The Lab, like the virtual vacation stuff and the cool 3D space shooter minigame, but that thing is straight up free so there's no real need to harp on that. Oh and they were also positive about Tilt Brush, but that isn't really a game but more of just an art thing. VR's gonna be fucking kickass about shit like that, anything highly creatively focused is going to be the kinds of stuff I'll want to play or use in VR, like Chunks and Tilt Brush.
But Job Simulator is free. It comes with every Vive purchase. It only costs money for people who somehow had a Vive before, which are only developers and that's like 5% of all people who have a Vive.
They were pretty positive about Job Simulator too.
I joined the live stream a little late, still haven't caught up on it. But yeah once they had good stuff in their hands, they see the real value in VR. I've always known the giant bomb people to be pretty unbiased (with ~most things), and I think their criticisms of where VR is right is completely valid. It has a lot of drawbacks, not a lot of software, expensive etc. I still have that shit ordered though. [editline]22nd April 2016[/editline]
But Job Simulator is free. I can get into a film for free, but that doesn't mean I have to say the film is good value for money if some people are going to have to buy it. At £30 it was not good value for money.

man, seeing them actually have to stand on their tip-toes to reach things they placed high up in the game and zooming out to see the head motions and controller motions from a free camera view is trippy as hell.
