I had to wait till the end of the night to make purchases so i missed out on a few good things.
It's just like a old HTC Desire smartphone, except screen size have been doubled while keeping the pixel count.

Would be funny if it actually were him who were handling the purchase.
Those are some pretty ridiculously terrible specs.
I mean, 30 dollar tablet and all, but at some point you cross a threshold where it's not worth it regardless of the price.

Well, what do you expect for $39.99
What does this have over Chinese knock offs that have been around for years? Isn't this exactly the same?
That's how much RAM my HTC Wildfire S has, running Android 4.2.
I wouldn't recommend it (over the stock ROM hell yeah), but maybe the CPU makes it better. But $40?
Maybe as a special present for a nephew.

It's a 4 year old smartphone with a upscaled screen.
I wouldn't use it for anything than web browsing, and even then it would be a good idea to either avoid image heavy sites or use Opera Mini while browsing.
Should be possible with some remote desktop software & app to use it as a extra screen for a computer though.
I feel bad for the people who don't have a microcenter around them, those are the bee's knees. For those wh don't know, it's a supermarket...of electronics. Oh sweet baby Jesus
Finally a tablet compared to which my computer is better..even though it costs $40

Specifically computer electronics and we dabble into TV's and Cameras.

If that tablet is better than your computer, then the electronic waste containers at the nearby recycling center is a goldmine for you.

Yep! They have/had a computer monitor section at the one I go to, and every 10 feet there's a 3-monitor racing game complete with steering wheel and pedals. I love that place and the employees are so rad.
Shit, now I gotta go again :v:
£5 for a lidl brand tablet, please!

WOAH, WOAH, WOAH! People just put their unbroken, but slightly outdated gear in their electronic recycling centers? Fuck! Why don't I know about this?!
do these still use resistive touchscreen or are those basically scrapped everywhere now because I hate those

Well considering you can only sell a Pentium 4 computer without harddrive for 10$, then some people just don't think it's wort the hassle of creating a "for sale" ad online in the first place.
You should try ask Pentium (the user on this forum) about what he as found while dumpster diving in electronic waste containers.

Are those the ones that compress slightly whenever you press them? Ala 3DS and Wii U? If so, fuck that fucking shit.
1.2Ghz and 512MB RAM is really not bad for the price. Keep in mind most Android developers make their apps with those specs in mind, even a large portion of the games.
If the stock ROM isn't a buggy piece of shit, or if there's a good custom ROM, I'd say it's worth $40.
[editline].[/editline]
Also note that it uses the Mali-400 GPU, the same GPU as the Galaxy S2. If the ROM isn't crap, you'd be able to get decent performance out of it.

It could be suitable victim for a DIY home automation set-up where it acts as front-end to control it all, or butchered up and integrated into the dash of a (cheap) car
Explains why so many games look and play like crappy flash games. I'm tired of cel shaded 2d tower defense games on android.

I'm pretty sure most tower defense games on Android ARE just flash ports.
Explains why so many games look and play like crappy flash games. I'm tired of cel shaded 2d tower defense games on android.
No, actually. That's just because crappy flash-like games are easy to make, so people make them. Those specs are capable of a lot more than that.
Here's the Mali-400 in action -

The processor and RAM aren't up to par with the devices used in the video, but considering how most Android games aren't very processor or memory heavy, similar graphical performance should be achievable. I'll keep a look out for reviews on the device to see if that applies in practice (which depends on the quality of the ROM).

Also for a little mobile emulator. The specs are more than capable of handling the emulators for N64/PSX and older consoles on Android. Dunno about PSP and DraStic. Perhaps I'll buy one and test it out.

Wow, that sucks, don't they let employees reserve a few items?

My feeling of pride sadly prevents me from doing that. But scavenging for parts in places I don't even want to talk about, is the only reason I have a PC with the most ridiculous range of hardware.
