And just like that, I want to re-watch this movie. :v:
i wish the lobster scene was in the regular edition, i've only ever seen it on tv.
"Buncha KANSAS CITY FAGGOTS!"
"Somone has to go back and get a shit-load of dimes!"
"The Sheriff is a Ni*DING!*" "What did he say?" "He said the Sheriff is near!"
i wish the lobster scene was in the regular edition, i've only ever seen it on tv.
Lobster scene? I've seen Blazing Saddles like 50+ times and I have no idea what that is.
"see it's coming off!"
Mel Brooks is fantastic. I've seen this so many times I could probably recite most of it by memory. I actually had the boyfriend watch Young Frankenstein just last night. "What do you like to do?" "Ohh I don't know... Play chess... Screw..." "Well lets play chess."
i wish the lobster scene was in the regular edition, i've only ever seen it on tv.
Uh, are you thinking of the right movie?

Funny story. My store had this impromptu movie night but the managers never showed up and then called out. We had all this ducking food and nothing to watch because they had some black comedy movie ready with them. You'd think this is the part where I suggest it but no, one of the older black women asked if I was there. I had mentioned Blazing Saddles at one point and apparently she watched it at home and nearly pissed herself. I was there, rose up my hand and was asked if I had it. I said no but I could buy it off YouTube, did that put on. I swear to God the beginning rail scenes had everyone nearly falling out of their chairs in laughter. I think the whole beans and farting bit got the most laughs. Shit was great, because then I showed Young Frankenstein and Space Balls.
The sad part about blazing saddles is that nobody would dare to sign off on it in this day and age. It's far too risky, and would attract far too much negative attention. The only way it would ever actually get made is if actual bigots touched it, and anything produced like that would just be awful, and completely devoid of the not so tongue in cheek irony and political commentary. It's really just depressing when you think about it.

This film obviously got greenlit in the 70s, and no one raised a fuss over it's release like nowadays with shit like the Ghostbusters reboot.
hmm, i thought i remembered seeing a different version of this scene on tv
Harumph!

What in the wide wide world of sports is going on here? [editline]2nd July 2016[/editline] A laurel and hardy hand shake!
nothing should be considered off limits when it comes to comedy
Anthony Jessilnik is a living example of that.

I've got no problem with them making it. I think it's going to be a really shallow and shitty movie. In fact I'll go further and say that I will be positively shocked if it isn't. This is not a good comparison if you ask me. Blazing Saddles is funny because of it has multiple levels of wit, plot, makes light of countless stereotypes, and actually highlights whats wrong with those stereotypes by juxtaposing them with situations where they don't hold up. It's offensive, while at the same time ridiculing you for being offended, and it still has loads of cheap jokes dispersed throughout. If forces you to think. Or at least be aware of some of the complexities and finer nuances of culture. That's good comedy. Compare that with the stereotypical black lady who's only depth is that she knows the town. Wow, she's being loud and stereotypical. So funny. It doesn't matter that she's black. She could be practically anything, as long as she portrayed the corresponding stereotypes, and the plot would be completely unaffected. The entire persona is just a piece tacked onto the plot, instead of being integral to it. There is no counterpoint to that behavior that shows the ridiculousness of accepted perceptions. It's just cheap jokes, with no apparent attempt at provoking any sort of thought. It reinforces the stereotypes and makes fun of the character rather than being intelligent enough to make fun of the audience.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blazing_Saddles#Production [editline]1st July 2016[/editline]
Headly!
I love Brooks jokes like this that break the fourth wall. It was meant to egg Hedey Lamar into suing him, and she did. As Brooks put it she sued him for almost using her name. And apparently she never got the joke. The "merchandising" bit in Space Balls is similar. Brooks got permission from Lucas to make a Star Wars spoof on the condition that no merchandise would be made. So that's why Yogurt is making merchandise (where the real money from the movie is made) and Darth Helment has Space Balls toys.
i still think this is the most meta scene ever created in film and tv
