this is a finished game
The game is kind of a joke at this point. Also slightly off topic but I'm not so big on Critikals shift into streaming. I dig his videos more when it's just him one on one with a game getting real weird. Now that he's started streaming I feel like that spark is gone. I'll still always love the dude though.
It's like the developers were too lazy to re-write the code and instead tried to leap on the popularity and the game is now just code sticky taped and stapled together.

For some reason I swear this was a game was supposed to be multiplayer and made by a facepuncher. I thought i remember the gameplay was supposed to be figuring out/stealing secrets from your rival neighbor's house while defending your own. Did they change something? Am I getting early-onset dementia?

Am I getting early-onset dementia?
While it didn't start as that as far as am I'm aware, this game started out much differently, with you being some adult seemingly, investigating the house of this neighbor since he had a big creepy door with some sort of devious secrets hidden behind it that you were obsessed with, not helped by the neighbor's aggressive behavior. How the fuck it ended up with the player character being a child and all of this dumb garbage is anyone's guess.
God what a waste of a potentially good artstyle
lol
What the hell is the objective in this game exactly? Just get to point B?
What the hell is the objective in this game exactly? Just get to point B?
to fly on trash bins
That sound design is giving me a headache.
This Game looked promising at First. Now ist a Pile of Crap cause of Lazy Game Design and Horrible Story Writing :hurr:.
this is a finished game
this was actually pretty interesting to see since previously all I knew about the game was you're just trying to run into some guys house to grab some keys without gettin caught lol. It looks like they were trying to really make some sorta ~deep~ and tragic metaphor-filled story within the game, and a lot of the ideas and visuals are actually interesting, but holy shit the execution is HORRENDOUS. It really is just a case of reach exceeding grasp because wow this is such an awkward mess of a game that they clearly weren't capable of pulling off. It's like an early proof of concept that just got pushed out the door because most of the dev team just up and quit one day. RIP
What the hell is the objective in this game exactly? Just get to point B?
at first it's to get into the basement, but it kinda gets overboard from there [sp]as you get kidnapped, have to escape back to your house, and then have to ultimately re-explore the neighbor's house in adulthood[/sp] problem is that the dynamic AI they touted didn't really follow through, and ultimately resulted in an asshole that beelines for your immediate known position and then gives up the search as soon as he can't find you, with no real dynamic-ism about it beyond jumping through windows and hopping about. as a result the game's just a glitchy, unpolished and bland puzzle platformer in first-person pretending to be a horror game
to get a better idea of what happens, here it is presented in the most bearable fashion possible: the current wold record speedrun so basically [sp]the entire third act is just a dream and is meant to be some sorta elaborate metaphor for overcoming the main characters childhood drama (acts 1 and 2) at the hands of the Neighbor, who apparently is some guy that snapped after losing his family. But there's still so much that just doesn't make sense or isn't explained lol. I do like the one visual at the very end of the player controlled section of the game that this speedrun and the other above video actually don't show, where if you turn around in that white hallway you'll see the neighbor trapped in a house and banging on the window. again, lots of neat ideas, BAD execution[/sp]
The artstyle and concepts behind the game could have been so amazing they had such a cool idea for a game that genuinely could have been a pretty unique survival experience what HAPPENED [editline]24th January 2018[/editline] I legit would love to see a detailed explaination of what happened behind the scenes here obviously, the devs got lazy, but why, they had something
God damn kid is moving at mach speed running away from his equally as fast neighbor. Really though, why are they so fast
problem is that the dynamic AI they touted didn't really follow through, and ultimately resulted in an asshole that beelines for your immediate known position and then gives up the search as soon as he can't find you, with no real dynamic-ism about it beyond jumping through windows and hopping about. as a result the game's just a glitchy, unpolished and bland puzzle platformer in first-person pretending to be a horror game
watching this """AI""" in action is a fucking embarrassment after just playing through alien: isolation. the AI in that is fucking superb
watching this """AI""" in action is a fucking embarrassment after just playing through alien: isolation. the AI in that is fucking superb
Compare the AI to the AI in F.E.A.R, a game that was made over a decade ago Not the same genre sure, but even then, that was a shooter of all things, a genre usually reserved for very simple enemy types. [editline]24th January 2018[/editline]
tinybuild is really hands off their first gameplay video was obviously fake as fuck they made a "working" alpha for youtube bait and seemed to focus on that
From what I remember the alpha was some obnoxiously blatant shite compared to that first video they showed
So not only is the gameplay complete ass (which I think we all saw coming from a mile away based on the horrendous earlier builds they showed) but the storyline is also at best bizarrely unfinished, and at worst straight up insultingly vague? What the fuck? Did they even have a plan to begin with and get lazy when it got a ton of publicity or did they just not give a shit?
I think multiple things played in to it. Originally they likely had a really neat idea for a simple, short little game about trying to sneak in to the neighbor's basement with some unique ai built around distracting the neighbor and being sneaky. But I think the massive hype for it overwhelmed them and they started going, "Ok, people are expecting a lot and there is so much anticipation for this, we have to go bigger and do more so they aren't disappointed!" And so they started expanding upon the house. Then all the talk about the weirdness of the neighbor and what his secret must be and such got to them and from there they went, "Well, people are expecting a weird and mind-bending story, so lets give it to them!" and they started doing the weird shit and odd puzzles and such. And from there it just kept cascading and probably no one really sat down and actually said, "No, we have to be reasonable about this."
This was also the devs first PC game they made. They were just mobile developers previously.
this game is such a cynical cash-grab i wouldn't be surprised if the plot is intentionally obtuse just so people talk about it for slightly longer
I mean I found Hello Neighbor toys in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart long before the game was ever fully released so yeah pretty much.

Those are some neat ideas that could actually pull a couple tears out of me if only it was executed well.[/sp]
This game is such a piece of shit.
