are they going to move the doctors to another hospital too
Holy fucking shit.
WELP, this could fucking sink the entire ship if this goes more public.
better hope that bike has a motor cause they are going to be back-pedaling for decades
You're job is to provide medical treatment and you fucked that up. It is pretty sad that this all could have been prevented but it wasn't due to shear laziness.
I wonder if they meant to use this as a shining example by winning the case and then saying the law should be changed, but took it to far. I feel like they would have some type of agenda here, because in a case where millions are at stake along with judicial precedent, this type of fuckup sounds unreal.
They just fucked up big time.

Not sure if that's a pun...
the hospital (catholic or not) will win the court case if the patient refused or didn't ask for a c-section
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_re_A.C.
In these situations, the wrong thing to do is to force a c-section on the patient.
In re A.C. was a 1987 D.C. Circuit reproductive rights case. It was the first appellate court decision to "take a stand against" forced caesarean sections.[SUP][1][/SUP] Angela Carder (née Stoner) was forced to undergo a life-threatening Caesarean section in an unsuccessful attempt to save the life of her fetus. The case stands as a landmark in United States case law establishing the rights of pregnant women to determine their own health care.
if they're unconscious and it's going to kill them I think the doctor can make the call unless they have a 'do not resuscitate' wristlet/signed waiver or something

then it's up to the husband or some other family member or legal guardan/lawyer iirc.
e: either way, if they can't get consent from somebody the default is to not do the c-section because it puts the mother's life in danger if she's gravely ill.

I should have also noted nobody of immediate authority is also present, but you get the idea.

i added an edit to that post after you posted whoops
but yeah, like the hospital is arguing the mother's life is basically worth more than the unborn child's life. So you can't put the mother at risk to save the fetus.
How come this only surfaced now? It happened in 2006 for christ sakes, did he really wait this long to sue?

The incident happened in 2006, but the court case on the other hand may have been much more recent.

It's in appeals. I'm assuming the original trial was in 2006.
They're trying to get it to the Colorado Supreme Court.

hope I don't get banned for off-topic, but does anyone else think this is extremely dumb of a rule?
Least garry could do was explain his reasons.

He probably wants people to take the effort of actually looking at the article instead of just scrolling past it

Good point.

or reading the 1-2 paragraph excerpts people put in quotes(because text walls in quotes are shit to read), thinking they have an understanding of the story, and then posting dumb questions that are answered in the source.

There are troll companies out there suing people for posting articles on their website, It's probably because of that. I remember the issue being brought up in the past, but I believe he ignored them or something? You should probably bring the question to ask us about the forums.

These off-topic discussions are happening in every single SH thread. If only there was a place to ask about the forums, what a concept.

There was speculation that he was sued because of the articles put up, which isn't far fetched because it copies the worked the writer and potentially diverts ad revenue.

Everybody here realizes that the hospital is arguing - in a court- that they simply followed state law, right?

This is kind of what lawyers do

This is kind of what lawyers do
They're also arguing against their own long-standing dogma which they have also argued in courts and tried to make law.
