• Brazil sends 200 troops to control lethal violence sparked by police strike
Brazil’s president has ordered 200 troops to the south-eastern state of Espírito Santo, where a police strike in recent days sparked a wave of violence including what is already believed to be dozens of murders. The law enforcement stoppage in a state struggling with a budget shortfall is the latest example of how depleted public finances, amid Brazil’s worst recession on record, are crippling even basic health services, education and security in some states. The crime surge in Espírito Santo, a small coastal state just north of Rio de Janeiro, began over the weekend, after police on Friday stopped work because of the pay dispute. Since then, local media and citizens with cellphone videos have broadcast scenes of chaos as thieves and other criminals appear to run rampant, particularly in state capital Vitoria and its suburbs, home to about two million people. Local media reported that as many as 50 people have died during the period, an unusually high death toll for the state in such a short period. But a state security spokesman said the government has not been able to make an official tally.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/06/brazil-police-strike-crimewave-troops-espirito-santo another link from BBC that has more info and some more images http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-38879775 I've been seeing lots of videos and images pop up on social media from people relinking Brazilians since yesterday, but it seems nobody's reported on it. what happened was a bit more in-depth than just a "police strike", mind. since the police can't exactly go on strike, parents of the policemen and the general populace started blocking off police departments and making it so they're unable to work. of course the idea behind it is a "strike" of sorts, as police from ES hasn't seen renumeration adjustment for almost a full decade now. another interesting thing to note on this story is how long it took until national media reported on it - over 12 hours. overall, stay safe if anyone's in ES. as most people from there already know, most departments are closing up temporarily so just stay home for now.
Wonder what's the OOB is and the plan. Usually these things work for a couple of days or weeks and then the same military soldiers get involved in the dirty business of corruption.
Our SJWs keep saying we don't need police huh
I don't understand anti-police people. It's like saying we don't need locks on our doors.
I have a few videos that people sent me. It's terrible. It looked like a war zone. Criminals shooting citizens and citizens fighting back (there's a video where 2 criminals simply shoot a guy that was doing nothing but standing). This is worse than Rio de Janeiro, never thought that we'd be so bad without police. EDIT: I've also received an audio note from a friend, content was a guy claiming a group of 60+ people was going to clean the cities from bandits.
Our SJWs keep saying we don't need police huh
I have only a couple of what I imagine you'd call SJWs in my friends circles and on Facebook, but I've literally never heard this
I have only a couple of what I imagine you'd call SJWs in my friends circles and on Facebook, but I've literally never heard this
At protests, bandits break and loot stores, throw stuff at police and the protestants themselves complain about the police handling the situation - throwing gas bombs, shooting rubber bullets at them. They just complain.
At protests, bandits break and loot stores, throw stuff at police and the protestants themselves complain about the police handling the situation - throwing gas bombs, shooting rubber bullets at them.
But how does complaining about the riot police's handling of protests translate into wanting to disband the police force?
There are groups like BLM who constantly denounce police presence everywhere they go. There are also a handful of 'police abolitionist' groups, but they're usually small enough to never hear. As you would except, since it's an extremely stupid idea.
I don't understand anti-police people. It's like saying we don't need locks on our doors.
If your lock takes 10 minutes after anything to lock maybe you'd have a point.
If your lock takes 10 minutes after anything to lock maybe you'd have a point.
biggest false equivalency I've seen in a while
Our SJWs keep saying we don't need police huh
You could've cleaned the hook before you baited it, amigo. There's still "Our SJWs want to ban guns!" guts left on it.. And as a proponent of police de-escalation, don't fucking compare Brazil's police forces to the US. Need I remind you of BOPE? I don't protest the activities of small-town US police depts, they do their job just fine. Nothing's perfect, but it works. I protest the activities of proto-BOPE forces like the LAPD and, to a lesser extent, the NYPD.

Do you even live in Brazil?
So you prefer having rapists and killers free instead of Bope dealing with it? Do you even live in Brazil?
The human rights violations of groups like BOPE barely make up for the good they do. But hey, nice slippery slope. Yeah, I totally want criminals running free in the streets. No, fucking, duh. I don't want criminals running free, but do you really think extrajudicial murder is worth it? I dislike the LAPD more if only because I've more evidence of their issues, but at the same time I don't really know of any actual comparison for the police forces in Southern American countries. Colombia, by far, being the worst with its literal death squads. And for the fucking record, I don't need to live in a country to understand its rights violations. I bet you'd be the first to throw China on the chopping block for its crimes, but do you even live there? Of course, it's a silly question to ask. You don't need to live there to research its issues.
If your lock takes 10 minutes after anything to lock maybe you'd have a point.
:what:
:what:
He's talking about how the police response time is usually around 5-15 minutes after a call.
He's talking about how the police response time is usually around 5-15 minutes after a call.
Yeah fucking police why can't they teleport
If your lock takes 10 minutes after anything to lock maybe you'd have a point.
Never thought I would see a pro-gun argument be used as an anti-police argument.

You sound just like the SJWs here that complain and fight the police. Did you know that after being arrested, a person must go to trial so a judge can question the person and judge if the person was "abused" (not sexual abuse) by the cops (cops aren't allowed to testify or be present in these trials)? And that in 80% of these cases, criminals are freed, no matter what kind of crime they committed? There's your "human rights" acting, or I'd rather say "criminal rights", because cops are being treated as the bad guys here. Cops can't shoot unless a criminal is using a gun and becomes a threat to them (if the criminal puts his hand on his gun, something like that), heck, they can't even use Tazer guns for the same reason (oh someone is going to use a firearm, I'll taze him). This is like having a serial killer kill 100+ people and saying "he deserves a second chance". When will people learn that killers and rapists will never learn? They deserve, at minimum, to be locked up for a good time.
If your lock takes 10 minutes after anything to lock maybe you'd have a point.
So you're saying that police should have more funding so they can have be more effective? I can get behind that
