Moldovan court rules that the official language is Romanian
The Constitutional Court ruled Thursday the country's official language should be changed to "Romanian" from "Moldovan."Moldovans and Romanians speak the same language with slight variations due to different historical influences. The language was renamed Moldovan under Soviet rule to separate the country from Romania and the word reminds many of the country's communist past.
Moldova's remaining Communists opposed the change.
In neighboring Romania, officials welcomed the decision. President Traian Basescu called it "an act of justice." Last week, Basescu controversially called for Romanian unification with Moldova, which formed part of Romania between the two world wars.
Russia's political influence is dwindling and ours is growing. Though Transnistria responded to this by replacing it's legal and political system similar to Russia's.
Is nice
I hate countries with fake languages and dialects presented as languages

Nice try Serbian.
Basarabia would be Romanian territory if the soviets weren't so damn oppressive
Yes, soon we will swallow Moldova back into it's true motherland.
Long live the cultural line of Thrace-Dacia-Romania!
I never considered the unification of the three provinces complete, given it was without Moldova. If Moldova will be unified with Romania, it would be pretty nice.
Isn't Moldova one of the poorest countries in Europe?

What does that have to do with this article?

... and? Does this somehow prohibit them from speaking Romanian?

MUAHAHAHAHA

I imagined that with the dracula accent.

Dunno man, it's pretty hard to get out of Russia's influence when it's our main export market unfortunately. Last time we tried to get their troops out of Transnistria they put up a trade embargo and thus halved our production output. Europe doesn't really buy our shit as of yet, these EU deals will hopefully start to change that.
But yeah, I'm happy with the new changes, as "Moldavian language" was always an attempt to separate our heritage from the Romanian one.
But my news channel told me Moldovian people oppose the attempts to get closer with Romania, so it must be true!

All the old timers from the USSR do, so yeah it's the majority.
But a huge number of moldovan students study in Romania for free thanks to government funds. So the new generation will be for it.
Not like I want a unification with Moldova since they're poor as fuck and would only make us poorer and give us a rabid russian minority. But news is news.

Funnily enough, that was one of the points in the article, where the farmers said unification would lead to market being overflown with import goods thus impoverishing the local producers.

More like having to invest tens of billions of euros to bring them even close to us and also raising their pensions and minimum salary to Romania's, all from our own budget.
Yeah, nah, they can fuck off for all I care.

They are the poorest, not one of the poorest.

Not that these things can change, right???

I didn't know the state paid all the salaries again, are we in communism or something. It would be expensive but more from the paperwork pperspective. And don't think that al of the financial weight would be put on your side.
Our humble budget would hopefully not dissapear in a briefcase.
Besides, the process has already started with your government handing out citizenships to anyone who requests it.

Well, poverty usually brings shoddy infrastructure and public services of all kinds; so those would have to be brought on-level.

It's the same problem West Germany faced when the East fell; and the same problem that makes South Korea completely uninterested, possibly even opposed to a peaceful reunification with the north.

*flips through some history material*
The Great Empire of the North... and Sweden. Yeah, Denmark's obviously got the fake language here.
