• Brachiosaurus has named changed to Giraffatitan
Taylor (2009) recently suggested that the North American species Brachiosaurus altithorax is generically distinct from the African species Brachiosaurus brancai, which is known from abundant material including a complete skull and many craniodental elements. Based on numerous differences between overlapping parts of both holotypes, Taylor (2009) proposed that the African species should be known as Giraffatitan brancai. While we are open to this possibility, we do not believe that it is sufficiently justified at present because the identified differences have not been defended as separating genera, rather than species, populations, or individuals. The sister-taxon relationship between the two species recovered in the phylogenetic analysis performed by Taylor (2009) neither supports nor refutes their generic-level separation. At this point, we consider the decision to recognize the African species as a genus apart to be arbitrary. We choose to retain the original nomenclature in this contribution, distinguishing between the two species where appropriate.
Source : http://svpow.wordpress.com/category/brachiosaurs/brachiosaurus/

Bitch can't get away from me, I still want the protection money!
Noo, my childhood will fight you to the bitter end!
Screw that, always going to call it a Brachiosaurus.
I don't know why you posted the title as it having its name changed as it clearly states in the article that at present the differences between the two species are not sufficient to be a new genus so the name won't be changed.
Now I understand how those who grew up with the name Bronotsaurus felt when it got changed to Apatosaurus.
I want a pet dinosaur
Brachniosaurus sounds more badass
No, it's the African subspecies Brachiosaurus brancai that is changing name. The North American species will keep it's name; Brachiosaurus altithorax.
No, it's the African subspecies Brachiosaurus brancai that is changing name. The North American species will keep it's name; Brachiosaurus altithorax.
True, although Brachiosaurus brancai was the dinosaur everyone refered to as a 'Brachiosaurus'
In that case STOP BEING SENTIMENTAL OVER SCIENCE. It makes no sense. First pluto, now this... *Rant* *rant*
Changing the name of a dinosaur? Fuck. That. Shit.
I'm now quoting myself in this page of this thread as an answer to this.
STOP BEING SENTIMENTAL OVER SCIENCE.
