Trotsky was pretty much Stalin arch nemesis. He was the war Commissar of the red army after the revolution and during the civil war. He didn't do much strategy, but he still had the most power, he was pretty much commander in chief. At the height of the Civil war, where the soviets fought the imperial army and Soviet Russias territory was reduced to jack shit, he turned the entire thing around at petrograd, the birthplace of the revolution. He was at division headquarters in Alexandrovka, just outside the city, when he looked up and saw retreating Red soldiers approaching. He reacted instinctively. "I mounted the first horse I could lay my hands on and turned the lines back," he later recalled. It took a few minutes for the commissar of war to make his presence felt among his withdrawing troops. "But I chased one solder after another, on horseback and made them all turn back. Only then did I notice that my orderly, Kozlov, a Muscovite peasant and an old soldier himself, was racing at my heels. He was beside himself with excitement. Brandishing a revolver, he ran wildily along the line, repeating my appeals and yelling for all he was worth: 'Courage, boys, Comrade Trotsky is leading you!'. Seriously, what a badass. Anyway, after Lenin died, he was going to be the next leader of the Soviet union, but due to a power struggle with Stalin, he didn't get the position. Stalin exiled him to Norway. Stalin and Trotsky were long time enemies, during the civil war they argued about everything, to the point where Trotsky had Stalin removed from the front for getting in the way. Lenins Will said:
Comrade Stalin, having become Secretary-General, has unlimited authority concentrated in his hands, and I am not sure whether he will always be capable of using that authority with sufficient caution. Comrade Trotsky, on the other hand, as his struggle against the C.C. on the question of the People's Commissariat of Communications has already proved, is distinguished not only by outstanding ability. He is personally perhaps the most capable man in the present C.C., but he has displayed excessive self-assurance and shown excessive preoccupation with the purely administrative side of the work. These two qualities of the two outstanding leaders of the present C.C. can inadvertently lead to a split, and if our Party does not take steps to avert this, the split may come unexpectedly
So, Trotsky was considered to be the best leader, who wouldn't step outside of his boundaries, like he predicted Stalin would. After being exiled to Norway, he later settled in Mexico to hide from Stalin, who was now out to kill him. Trotsky was big on democracy, and was a total patriot. Anybody that retreated from battle during the civil war was executed, and he had field court martials for anybody who deserted. Once, a man deserted, and the court martial ordered every 10th person in his regiment executed. holy fuck. Anyways, he constantly spoke out against stalin, and promoted democracy, and formed the unsuccessful 4th international. He was the subject of the Soviet Unions show trials, being accused of plotting to assassinate stalin. These show trials marked the beginning of stalins murderous career, and the demise of lenins union. Oh yeah also he had a killer haircut and 'stache, and fucked Frida Kahlo, who was also a communist.. He survived a hail of bullets in an assassination attempt in mexico and fought them back at the age of like, 60. He was eventually assassinated when he was beaten to death with a pickaxe. His words were "I think Stalin has finished the job he has started." In animal farm, he was snowball
Snowball: Napoleon's rival and original head of the farm after Jones' overthrow. He is mainly based on Trotsky,[6] but also combines elements from Lenin.[7] He wins over most animals and gains their trust by leading a very successful first harvest, but is driven out of the farm by Napoleon. Snowball genuinely works for the good of the farm and the animals and devises plans to help the animals achieve their vision of an egalitarian utopia, but Napoleon and his dogs chase him from the farm, and Napoleon spreads rumours to make him seem evil and corrupt and that he had secretly sabotaged the animals' efforts to improve the farm.
Discuss this badass motherfucker here.
His writings are pretty interesting.
If only he led the Russians instead of Stalin. The lives of millions of people would have been saved. But of course, the power hungry fucknut will do anything to boost his ego. :sigh:
What is with commie's and mustaches/facial hair?
What is with commie's and mustaches/facial hair?
You can't be a successful communist leader without fantastic facial hair. That's why Fidel Castro is still in power, facial hair like that just doesn't quit.
Stalin was such a dick and dicked (That is, assassinated) his way into power and turned the country into a massive shithole. Wasn't he the absolute last of Lenin's choices for a successor of all the Bolsheviks so he threw a murderous fit and took over? Poor Trotsky, look at those eyes! There's a fine quote about Socialism's requirement of Democracy but I don't know who originally said it and have just seen it as the user title of a guy on Something Awful.
What is with commie's and mustaches/facial hair?
facial hair has actually decreased along the years. ho chi minh had the least before it all went out of style Just a scraggly little goatee
Wasn't he the absolute last of Lenin's choices for a successor of all the Bolsheviks so he threw a murderous fit and took over?
Yeah. Lenin expelled Stalin from the party before the revolution because he kept robbing banks using Bolshevik resources. Stalin and Lenin were total enemies, but he photoshopped a picture of them hanging out to convince people that Stalin was next in line.
I like this thread.
Icepick in Mexico? Has to be for murder.
What is with commie's and mustaches/facial hair?
If you want a serious answer, it's generally because they come from 3rd world countries and could give a shit about hygiene. Mao Tse-tung didn't brush his teeth, he just rinsed with tea.
Leon is my 2nd favourite Soviet. Stalin goes in gulag tier, where he belongs.
Leon is my 2nd favourite Soviet. Stalin goes in gulag tier, where he belongs.
Im guessing lenin is #1
I liked Snowball :saddowns:
Wasn't he the absolute last of Lenin's choices for a successor of all the Bolsheviks so he threw a murderous fit and took over?
Lenin explicitely said that he mistrusted Stalin in his will.
Suddenly I remember this: Lookin' Good, Leon. Could the Whites have been more offensive if they'd tried?
His grave. My grandmother has visited it. :3:

Could the Whites have been more offensive if they'd tried?
Well it worked. Russia was and kinda still is pretty anti-semetic
Well it worked. Russia was and kinda still is pretty anti-semetic
Well, in the Soviet Union, antisemitism was a giant crime if I recall correctly.
In the U.S.S.R. anti-semitism is punishable with the utmost severity of the law as a phenomenon deeply hostile to the Soviet system. Under U.S.S.R. law active anti-semites are liable to the death penalty.
Yeah.
Well, in the Soviet Union, antisemitism was a giant crime if I recall correctly.
I don't know about "giant crime" but I know that Lenin spoke out against it. Stalin on the other hand, not so much. But then again Stalin hated all religions.
I don't know about "giant crime" but I know that Lenin spoke out against it. Stalin on the other hand, not so much.
Actually, the above text I posted, was Stalin's condemnation of antisemitism in 1931.
I don't know about "giant crime" but I know that Lenin spoke out against it. Stalin on the other hand, not so much. But then again Stalin hated all religions.
Yeah, Lenin saw atheism as more of a propaganda tool rather than a political platform, unlike stalin.
Actually, the above text I posted, was Stalin's condemnation of antisemitism in 1931.
Coming from Stalin that seems extremely strange and hypocritical
Coming from Stalin that seems extremely strange and hypocritical
Well this IS Stalin. Hypocrisy is his middle name "religion is the opiate of the masses"
Coming from Stalin that seems extremely strange and hypocritical
That was before, of course, the doctors plot.
Well this IS Stalin. Hypocrisy is his middle name
Yeah, Stalin hated minorities (Poles, Tatars, etc) even though he was one (Georgian)...
Anybody that retreated from battle during the civil war was executed, and he had field court martials for anybody who deserted. Once, a man deserted, and the court martial ordered every 10th person in his regiment executed. holy fuck.
It's interesting that one of the most tolerant Soviets who even promoted democracy, still wasn't exactly clear. But during 1920's it probably still was a ''valid'' military doctrine. ( I know it was also used in WW2 by some commanders, but that was under the lead of Stalin )
Stalin was such a dick and dicked (That is, assassinated) his way into power and turned the country into a massive shithole.
Are you sure you know what you are talking about, because I think you mean he was a dick to the people rather to the country. He transformed russia from a 3rd world, uncivilized, barbaric shithole into a industrial superpower ready and able to face off and compete with western countries in less than 20 years. Granted he achieved it by committing disgusting and unspeakable acts but you cant really say he made the country a shithole. In fact that WAS his issue, he cared about the country so much he valued money and power over human life. Which by the way, directly contradicts communistic ideals.
